Screenjunkies just had a video on this topic tonight. I think it makes for an interesting thread. Which franchise does the M/TV board prefer? And why?
Here's the video for anyone interested.

The MCU is the greatest movie franchise of all time.

It certainly isn’t Star Wars. A majority of those movies have been average at best, if not downright poor.

I enjoy them all. But for me it would Lord of the rings. I remember when the Fellowship came out in theaters, I had no idea what it was about. I’ve never been more eager for a movie before Return of the King.

Very true, but SW and Empire are better than the MCU and LOTR, IMO.
Posted on 12/27/18 at 9:02 pm to RLDSC FAN
Not even close. LotR top to bottom was better than anything in the SW-verse.

LotR is greatly diminished by The Hobbit

Star Wars vs Marvel vs Lord of the Rings!
Marvel for consistency
Star Wars for world building, TLJ ignored

LotR by a country mile if its just the 3 movies and not the Hobbit. Assuming the Hobbit is included, then its the MCU.
Star Wars is in a distant 3rd to both of them.

Yes, it is like white beard.
Boring.
I like Star Wars for the expanded universe but Marvel doesn't make me feel anything like Star Wars and LotR.
Marvel is boring and lifeless.

Star Wars should get a little credit for being original. The other franchises are adaptations of other works that are arguably superior to the movie versions.

The Hobbit is the first book I ever read on my own as a kid.
It was ruined by being turned into 3 movies.

Even Star Wars fans only like Star Wars now for bitching purposes. Hopefully it dies out soon.

I disagree. I see them as two completely separate stories.
Hobbit was bad to average.
LOTR is a masterpiece of film making.

Personally I don’t think The Lord of the Rings is comparable to Star Wars and Marvel anymore. LotR and SW were comparable before they decided to turn SW into SJW Marvel. And for all you assholes that point out “The Hobbit” Trilogy, Peter Jackson left the fans with a perfect amount of material for a glorious fan edit.
When you go behind the scenes, you will realize that Peter Jackson was the only reason that trilogy wasn’t irredeemable. Every scene Peter Jackson knew he couldn’t frick up on he pulled off masterfully, but every other scene he winged it. He had 9 months to pull off a fricking trilogy, when he had 3 years with writing The Lord of the Rings, so of course the writing will be on another level, except for the scenes he cared about. An Unexpected Party, the cave trolls, Riddles in the Dark, The Mirkwood Spiders, Bilbo meeting Smaug, Smaug’s Death, and Thorin’s Death are all perfect. I strongly encourage everyone to find the 3.5 hour edit of the Hobbit since it’s just as good as the other 3.
Now moving on to the other two. Star Wars consists of only two great films: the first two. The third one save for the throne room scenes is not that good. It’s no where near as consistent as Return of the King. The others ride on the previous ones to a crippling degree and at least 3 of them extend the middle finger to the source material.
Then there’s Marvel. They’ve had some misses, but fortunately they listen to their audience. They don’t tend to repeat mistakes. I thoroughly believe that kids today will be thoroughly confused with our obsession with Star Wars when Marvel has been so much consistently better. Infinity War is this generation’s Empire Strikes Back. As far as I’m concerned it was the killing blow to this conversation between Star Wars and Marvel.
Marvel is better than Star Wars, and Star Wars put a gun in its mouth when it comes to Lord of the Rings.

You can't judge the franchise on recent events.
Not in the sense of the materpeice that was the OG Trilogy.

People who say this haven’t seen the fan edit. Jackson took exceptional care over the scenes the fans wanted to see and he knew he couldn’t frick up. He winged the rest because he was given 9 months to write a trilogy. I respect that. He could have made some of those filler scenes better, but why bother if it hurts the bottom line. Jackson knew he had a solid 3.5 hour film buried there.

Star Wars killed itself and only two of the movies have been truly great. Seriously there hasn’t been a great Star Wars movie in my lifetime. I can judge it for that.
