Got to love 100+ year old quarter sawed old growth pine flooring. Hard as a rock.

Old pine is awesome. My old house near city park had that and it got doused for Katrina. Insurance gave me replacement cost, but I sanded and polyurethaned and it still looked great when I sold the place 5 years later.
Long lasting and looks great too.

I gotta tell you, I wouldn't put anything on those floors but about 4-5 coats of Johnson's Paste Wax. Buff between coats. Obviously requires more maintenance than a varnish or urethane or similar, but not so much as you'd think. Depending on traffic on the floor, clean and rewax every couple of years.
