This is the dumbest argument on this board in a long time.

It will be trumped as soon as someone claims Lebron would have been an amazing soccer player.

If you don’t think lebron James having devoted his life to playing soccer instead of basketball could have been an absolute monster in front of the goal at either end of the pitch I’m not sure what to tell you.

With current American training techniques, or the ones we used when he was coming of age, he'd be a GK at best, and even that is a long shot. He would likely have never been a professional outfield player. Tall dudes are selected against in soccer and generally are limited to three roles, CB, target striker or GK. There is a litany of super athletic players who lacked the requisite technical skill, and who were nothing more than intermittent role players.

It wouldn't matter how athletic Lebron is, as without skill on the ball and the ability to negotiate tight spaces, he'd be a severely limited player. If he was born and trained in France? I'd be more inclined to think he could have been a professional. French players generally have immaculate technique. American players do not.

Yaya Toure, Zinedine Zidane, zlatan... tall players with coordination.

coordination is all that matters, not size. most big guys just don't have it. the fact that lebron is supremely coordinated with his hands leads me to believe that he would have been with his feet as well.

people always said a tall guy could never be the fastest man in the world before usain bolt set fire to the record books.

I just think Liverpool has the upper hand in getting Pulisic because of his previous relationship with Klopp

Read what I wrote again. Toure and Zidane are midgets compared to Lebron. Ibrahimovic has insane talent and body positioning and is an outlier in pretty much every respect. There isn't one outfield player I can think of that is as tall as Lebron, and the only one historically that was any good was Jan Koller.

All the players you mentioned also had far better technical educations than Lebron would have received in the states. There is a large body of evidence that suggests Lebron wouldn't have become a professional outfield player. From a study of Danish professional soccer players, who all had a higher proportion of slow-twitch muscle fibers than the average Danish male, to the slew of athletic players who had average touch and could never make a massive impact (there is a literally a genre of these wingers) to the legitimate points about American technical education. It's a nonsensical position to suggest that Lebron would be a professional by virtue of his athletic ability alone. The traditional notion of athleticism favors fast-twitch muscle profiles, explosiveness, speed, etc. Soccer has generally favored slow-twitch muscle profiles. For example, Michael Bradley, who at sixteen, looked like the perfect central midfielder. Tall, rangy, and could run forever. But at times he had the touch of a rapist, and it affected his career, even though he had all the physical attributes. The best players of this last generation, outside of Messi and Ronaldo, haven't been particularly athletic. Xavi, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Modric, and most central midfielders aren't what I would call explosive, though all of them have superb stamina. Busquets has a crazy amount of ball skills for his height, but he doesn't exactly look like what Americans picture when they think of athletic, even though he is. Again, most of these players received world-class technical educations. And without technique, you will just be another pacey winger without end product (like Walcott, Wright-Phillips, Callum McManaman, among a ton of others).
