Not a recruiting board guru, but was wondering if any incoming players would be less likely to come if that position is filled. Also, would some players look at it as a positive that he would forego millions to stay?

So, you're wondering if it's a negative for a Freshman to learn from a Senior that has won the Butkus award?

So, you're wondering if recruits would look favorably on a player who has won the Butkus award and stayed for his Senior season?

I am wondering if a 5* wanting to play first year would look elsewhere knowing that he will never beat out a Butkus award winner.

Honestly I think the only person it could effect in any way is Nakobe Dean. I’m sure it would help us. Get playing time as a true freshman and be under Philips, and White. That sets himself up very well for the rest of his career. He won’t be starting at Georgia or Bama either. Imo he would easily be getting the best learning experience from the 2 guys in front of him over any other school in the nation for that matter.

And that's a very valid thought and I'm curious of the answer as well.

We tend to sell players on early playing time. If Dw40 comes back then that playing time might not come as early for a kid like dean

If a kid wouldn't want to come in with that type of situation, then he might not be a good fit. Good news, is that there are 5* LB's every year, and next year, one would have the chance to replace a two-time Butkus award winner and play along side Chiasson, Divinity, Queen, and Phillips.

That is not exactly the issue. The actual issue is when does Devin White announce that he is not staying (or is staying) and what effect does it have until then.

It shouldn’t but it might, these kids are 17 & 18 years old. Seeing how starks (who has been very committed) reacted to us pushing for dean shows how these youngsters operate. Unless they bleed purple & gold you can’t count on any commitment tbh

There is no uncertainty. He is a great Tiger but we will be watching him on Sundays next year. I wish him the best.

I get why your thinking like this but there are very few highschoolers able to step in as freshman and be the qb of the defense so because of White being the ILB in this case not even if the #1 recruit in the nation played his position would if bother that recruit. He would come in immediately if he's good enough and learn from White so it would be a pro for us

Hes one of the few players over the last 5 yrs that are NFL ready. He should go as much as I hate it.

If anything, it would ne a positive, especially with landing Dean. Getting to play with a guy like that as a true freshman

Incoming players..especially at LB will most likely sit there freshman year regardless if he is there or not...So no it does not affect the LB recruiting class
