Skylar Mays - Glue to team

He simply hasn't gotten enough recognition this year he deserves. To say he's improved is a VAST understatement. With Reid figuring out how things work and Waters in some kind of internal struggle with how to play right now, Mays has been nails...
Check out his progression:
FG %
Jr: 53.1%
So: 44.3%
Fr: 41.1%
3pt %
Jr: 43.2%
So: 35.1%
Fr: 32.8%
2pt %
Jr: 64.9%
So: 52.7%
Fr: 44.9%
FT %
Jr: 90.9%
So: 83.7%
Fr: 81.2%
AST:TO ratio
Jr: 2.6:1
So: 1.7:1
Fr: 1.6:1
pts/gm
Jr: 13.9
So: 11.3
Fr: 8.3
PER
Jr: 25.4
So: 17.4
Fr: 15.3
Dude has improved so much and is a legit GREAT player right now. He's gotten a lot of criticism in the past for not being a finisher at the rim but he's shooting 65% from 2 right now, that is bat-shite crazy for a 6'4 guard.

I hope he comes back for his senior season

Initial stats look great, now if you can show us similar stats when the season is over; I'd be extremely happy with Mays.

Had improved a ton. Can tell he works on fundamentals.

He’s for sure the veteran leader to me.
He’s not a threat to leave for the draft. I love the kid but he’s not an NBA prospect. He’s also a premed student.

It shows how much experienced players benefits your team. We have higher rated players, but Mays is the glue like TBird said. You know what you’re getting from him every game.

Skylar had a few bad moments last year that really cost us. So far this year he is one of the best players on the floor along with smart. We need the young guys inside to develop abd then we will be on to something. Waters seems to have a little trouble turning it on and off when it comes to scoring now that he has other guys he needs to keep involved. Last year was simple, just try and score whenever you can. This season that isnt usually the case with better players around him unless he has something open.

That doesn't mean he couldn't be a pro player. With the way he is ascending i wouldnt count him out.

Also, whenever he interviews, he's always a team first guy. "Whatever is best for the team". "Whatever coach wants me to do" you hear often

He's absolutely a great young man. One of the nicest student athletes you'll ever meet. He's one you want your kids to admire.

I love Skylar, I wish we had 10 of him. He plays hard and works at it. Gotten better every year and stuck through a coaching change. He's been a positive for this program

I agree with this.

Not sure I agree with this and it's definitely too soon to say. If he continues to play this way and has a similar or better senior year, I could definitely see a team giving him a roster spot.

Completely agree! Also goes to show all the basketball “geniuses” on here (or lack there of) that said before the season how Mays would be replaced by Smart, not start, and barely get any minutes this season.

Skylar needs to take this team over and make it his, because our star point guard is struggling badly.

We need to beat houston. frick cougar high.

Yeah, only thing else I'd like to see from Skylar at this point is being the clear vocal leader; we need someone to take that role.

He looks like a completely different player this year. He showed very brief moments of potential last year, but you can tell that he really put I some work in the offseason.
