re: The next time you get pissed because it takes FOREVER to fix your roads

:
No road in America has 750,000 drivers traveled on it in a day. No matter how busy a street is, they ALL have zero travelers when it is closed down for major repair. It takes 3 weeks to repair one small section of concrete on our interstate when it should only take 24-48 hours.
Don’t use the excuse that the foundation has to be constructed to handle the amount of traffic flow here because the foundation is already there. We typically just have to tear up the concrete and repour.

Just saying

The repairs match perfectly to the existing pavment. Something contractors in South LA cannot ever master.

I disagree with taking the DOTD out of the picture, in the 25 years I've been involved in construction and inspection the DOTD went from being able to control jobs and force contractors to somewhat do things right to the state we're in now where the contractors have all the power. I feel for any of the DOTD construction inspectors now, if they try to hold a contractor responsible for anything a few calls are usually made and the contractor gets his way. Hell most if the time we pay them to fix their screwups. I know a large statewide contractor that has a team of personnel assigned to find a minimum of a million dollars in change orders in every contract they bid on and win. And we pay them to fix these imaginary problems that weren't in the contract. Bid lower and get the State to help you out in the end.
That's where our problems lie.

And how long has that concrete work been going on Bluebonnet? 4, 5 months?

Roads are fixed, railroad is fixed, no looting
The memes were amazing though. Cops even thought so

You can clearly see this is note even close to the same road or location in each picture. Different light poles, one is at an intersection one is not. Lord people, think. if in fact it is real, it was a closed roadway with no traffic and you are comparing it to construction on an open road where traffic has to travel through a construction zone. You are also comparing it to a bridge that was hit and a specific manufactured piece of the bridge as needed to poured rock, stone and concrete. Too many complainers, not enough people using their brain - simply reacting to media fed drivel.

It is, just a different perspective
Minnesota and International Airport Rd overpass ramp

That is not the same location. The pic on the left is entirely different from the one on the right.....look at the turn lane signs, and look at the pic on the right.....the traffic is going in the opposite direction, and looks like an off ramp.
It's the same road, but the "before" pic is taken from a different angle. The beginning of the video in the OP's link has a picture from the same angle as the "after" shot.
Another set of pics before and after repair:

The guy and girl in the SUV that were trapped on the ramp walked out, caught a ride with the car behind them to the airport and made their flight.

I was wondering how they were going to get their car out without damaging it. I'm sure they were thankful they were ok, but were like, "Now what?"

Yeah they were headed out on vacation, he wasn't too worried about his car and left it there. Not much else he could do

I've seen Tech 5's cost contractors a lot of money from incompetence and "shutting" operations down.....then get removed from said project for incompetence.
DOTD inspectors 30 years ago had some savvy and sense.
The ones nowadays I've interacted with are comical, to say the least.
That's why I enjoy working in the private sector, or with a consulting firm. Together, we get shite done!!!

The Bluebonnet job only works on weekends when there are no LSU home games or holidays. Think about how backed up the traffic would be if there is work on Bluebonnet during those times.

I understand the LSU games, but there's no reason they shouldn't be almost done by now. Hell, there are gaps in the curbs that have been there for months. You mean to tell me they couldn't have thrown concrete in there by now?

I will say they do have a much butter substrate to build on, though.
Yes, it allows more margarine for error.
