My boy was notified this week that he got Congressional nominations to both academies. We are taking overnights in January, but he is leaning pretty hard toward Navy.
Love the West Point tradition and cachet, but Annapolis has (arguably) the better academic chops.

I’ve spent 19.5 years in that life. I know what it entails. If kids were given the option of getting a top notch education without the required commitment that comes after it then many would jump at the chance. Not to mention, some of these kids need the structure, responsibility and discipline that comes with any of the academy’s.
Lift the mandatory commitment and let them recruit and it wouldn’t take them long to become a national power. I’d also be willing to bet that at least half of the kids who accept their commission and become officers in the greatest fighting force in the world.
Do you seriously believe any of this?

I actually agree with him up to a point. Don't think they'd become a national power but a damn solid mid major with some Cinderella runs sprinkled in.
Why not allow their best players to have the option of either entering the NFL draft or commissioning?

My future BIL graduated from West Point this past spring, and I had the chance to attend his graduation ceremony. It was a very cool experience.
Needless to say, Go Army... Beat Navy!

What MOS does he want? He can get something "Army like" still at Annapolis since they commission USMC officers too.

I bet the average airman is a lot happier and healthier than the average soldier though.
