re: Why didn't OSU want to interview top notch coaches?

Hey I’m glad y’all didn’t go after Campbell. He’s an Ohio guy and would jump on that job. That’s the one job we were scared about.
I think he is a boom/bust candidate honestly. I like him myself, but I don't think going from ISU where the expectation is to make a bowl game to OSU where the expectation is to be in the playoff running annually is a slam dunk.
He would have been one of my calls if I was going out to interview guys though for sure

Ok so it's not just me
Add in Urban who just retired, 5 of the 6 have strange first names.
Does NOT bode well for RYAN Day

Meyer has said Day is the best OC he's ever had, and that includes Mullen and Herman. Those 2 are at the least pretty good HCs
Is this a joke? He's just talking up his replacement. You aren't actually hanging your hat on that statement as to why Day is right for the job?

Solid logic
Clemson shouldn’t have promoted Dabo
Oklahoma shouldn’t have promoted Lincoln Riley

His expectation is to win the big 12. The last 2 years, they controlled their own destiny to the title game but couldn’t finish.
The reason you even say the expectation is a bowl game is because of him too. He changed the culture overnight. Bowl games were a pipe dream before the last couple years. He has a team of 3 stars and a revolving door at QB with 3 top 10 wins in 2 years.
I want LSU to make the call.

Good question really
It's probably the best job in the country all things considered
Make Peterson tell you no
Make Chip tell you no
Make Brian Kelly tell you no
Make David Shaw tell you no
I bet those guys would strongly consider the move

I'm not hanging my hat on it, but Day is extremely well thought of in the coaching ranks. He was offered the Ms. St. job last offseason and I think there were some big programs sniffing around him this year.
He's already handled the entire fall camp this year and been through the routine as HC for 3 games. That is kind of a try out

I'll take giving Meyer's hand-picked successor an opportunity over any of them.
Who else ya got?

My education about this may be kind of limited but wasn't it essentially established in the Columbus area and Buckeye Nation that Day was Urban's successor and run things basically like Urban did? I mean the dude's basically an Urban Meyer/Chip Kelly disciple.

Day's gonna maintain the CUM system at tOSU, exceptional offensive playcaller, why not hire a CUM clone in your own backyard over the national coaching flavor of the month and the risk that entails?

Yeah, people from outside the program know nothing about the situation and are just shooting off because they expect a big-name hire. Forget the fact that Day picks up where Urban left off. Forget the fact that he's been in the program. Forget the fact that he took over for Urban through camp and for the first quarter of the season and went undefeated.
They've never heard of him, so we obviously should've hired whatever shite coach their mediocre programs wish they had.
Hard. Pass.

I'm sure the other factor was the "players really like him." The players at LSU liked O as interim also. Was that the best hire? No
Yeah, the old players really liked him bit.
The players really liked Clay Helton.
He's a players coach they said.
You don't want a player's coach.
You want a ruthless a-hole like Saban and Meyer who won't renew scholies if you start sucking.

I think it's a fantastic hire. If Day gets rid of Schiano and brings in a better DC, he'll do well. Even if he doesn't, give him a few years, then boom...Urban feels better and takes over again.

I think there are plenty of personality styles that can work. So there probably is a bunch more that goes into being a leader.

Against 2-10 Oregon St, 1-11 Rutgers, 6-6 TCU
You guys need better talking points.
