This is what happens when we we celebrate diversity over merit.

quote:

A prep school out of Louisiana is alleged to have routinely falsified black students' transcripts while embellishing their life stories to excite elite colleges into accepting them.

In a lengthy article by the New York Times, former students of T.M. Landry College Preparatory School in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, testify to being sold a bill of goods by a school administration that did little to prepare its pupils for college and everything to portray themselves as champions of the downtrodden. The school's students have become viral sensations, such as this video of a 16-year-old student opening his Harvard acceptance letter, with reports on the "Today" show, "Ellen" and "CBS This Morning" all hailing T.M. Landry as a launching pad into society's upper-crust. Just one problem: the whole school is a sham.

I think the more important question here is, did it elevate the kids out of poverty or did they flunk out?

I don't like calling racism when it's not justified, but this (if true) is obvious racism. No one should be singled out because of race, religion, sex, etc. for promotion or discrimination. Until it ends, we have no chance to end rampant hatred. Racism and discrimination cause racism and discrimination. You can't end it by promoting the other side/group.

Many of them flunked out because they were completely unprepared for college. All this high school did was teach the ACT for four years and then falsify their transcripts and make up stories about their lives (like that their parents were on drugs, etc.) so that they’d get into top colleges.

That is the question, and it is mixed. We know several of the kids who went there. Some were already very strong academically, from the Lafayette gifted program, and transferred there because of their college marketing success. They are doing great in elite college programs.

However, the kids who went there for any length of time didn’t make it. Two years ago there were two black students from Acadiana admitted to Columbia U, one from Lafayette and one from T.M. Landry. The Lafayette student is thriving. The T.M. Landry student dropped out after the first semester.

We know a girl who transferred to Landry as a senior, strong student already, and got admitted to George Washington. Doing great.

It’s a marketing operation, not a school. However, the deception will hurt good kid’s chances of getting into top schools. Total shame.

The thing is they were benefitting from diversity initiatives but it was the merit that was falsified. A white-run private school could do the same thing.

Don’t kid yourself. Fake grades are part of public schools as well. I saw kids with minimal knowledge given As and Bs.

Are they really or are they given grades because of their background and race like many affirmative action students.

The ends justify the means and we shouldn't punish criminals and fraud because reasons, right?

Add "feelings" to that and you just described the liberal mindset.

Sure, but fake classes are a whole different thing. Admission committees reward students who take difficult classes, the grade is less important than the difficulty.

Standardized tests, however, are used to validate the transcript. That’s why this program was so successful at placing students at top programs. Their students scored well on the ACT because it’s literally the only thing they taught.

That’s not how affirmative action works, dude.

Saw it at LSU too. Some of the exams in the 4000 level classes in the HSS college were chock full of easy questions that a chimpanzee could answer or even guess right.
