Another way of looking at it is that you trust your defense with a little over a minute and no timeouts for A&M to drive the whole field.

It’s hard to stop a team when they’re playing with all four downs, and your defense has no pass rush. In college the clock stops after a first down, so timeouts really don’t matter with a minute and some change. You have to go for the killshot on offense when you are in control of the game. It’s the only way. It’s a risk either way.

Whenever we needed that last first down to ice the game I asked my family "Does O and E elect to pass?" Everyone just laughed and laughed.

Or why not throw to our 6'7 receiver? It worked for theirs.

FIFY

Face it from the first whistle to the last O and E got outcoached.
Our first half showed we had a poor game plan. Once again our gritty talented players kept us in the game

Our coaches failed us.

If you put the ball in the air and it gets tipped and intercepted you would forever regret doing it.

I would rather take my odds that A&M doesn’t basically convert 2 miracle 4th downs to tie it up.

Sure, hindsight’s 20/20, but I’m not going to get too worked up over a judgement call

This is correct. The defense had shut them down in the second half.

I agree with the OP. Plus Aranda called the game like a b*tch as well.

This game never should have had to go to overtime. If we had a offense, we would have been a couple TD’s ahead at the end. How many 3 and outs? The D with the take away was the only reason we got back into the game. Offense, or the lack there of, always! Blame that on who ever you want to, I blame Alleva.

This is the only play where I blame Burrow. I thought it was a selfish play to keep it there when #4 could have easily gotten the first.

That's true and they didn't just run straight up the middle. They tried to slip Burrow outside which had worked a few times earlier in the game. With only 2 timeouts and a little over 2 minutes this is what you see in most college and NFL games. If there were 3 timeouts I would expect a pass. If Burrow passes and it's incomplete and A&M gets the ball with an extra timeout everyone crucifies SE. Great calls are the ones that work and bad ones are the ones that don't. Simplistic, but that's the fans' perspective.

The odds that A&M and Mond would go 78 yards in 89 seconds without timeouts were very low. Unfortunately, with some weird events, they did. There has been a lot to be critical about with playcalling this season, but IMO this was not one of them.

bad def lost this game. We scored enough points to win. A&M should have scored less than 20 on us.

How nice would that halfback pass have been had we used it on third down when all we needed was a 1st in regulation...

We scored 31 points in regulation. I know 7 were scored by the D, but we controlled time of possession which A&M had been very good at. Clemson scored 28 on A&M. Our offense scored 24. Not much difference. After the first two 3 and outs we had multiple sustained drives. A&M had one of the worst red zone offenses for scoring TDs as noted by the announcers, but they scored TDs on their first 2 red zone opportunities. I'm not putting it on the D, but the fact is all 3 phases had positives and negatives.

Our guys didn’t play or coach a perfect game, but they did more than enough to earn the win

I was annoyed with the give up play call on 3rd down. I can understand it to a degree....pin them deep, trust the defense, etc, but at least have play that has a higher percentage to work.

I understand the thinking of not passing, you don't want an incomplete pass that stops the clock. If that had happened we would all be griping about calling a pass play that stopped the clock and why not trust your defense.

But since we had no run game, I think a screen to RB or a WR screen. Or a quick slant...if either of those aren't there you tell Joe to take the sack or scramble. Clock stays running.

I agree completely, try to end it there instead of trusting defense in a bad environment.

When either O or Aranda decided to quit applying pressure to Mond, that’s when our fate was sealed. At that time it became a battle of offenses with the drivers (E and Jimbo) utilizing their best tactics to score.

Who would you rather have in that battle between E and Jimbo?

And yes. When we went to OT, I believe our HC knew inside he was toast and played scared. Yelling on the sidelines like a little bitch at Aranda was cringeworthy. No wonder Canada wanted to pop O’s azz in the mouth.

Love my Tigers though. They fought like hell. Hard to overcome mediocre coaching. Burrow played balls out. What a competitor!! Always hate losing a game we could and should have won.
