Atlanta is ghetto
My parents moved to Atlanta in 2012 and my dad said that the ghetto trash stays in their own area unlike here in BR

Baton Rouge and basically all of La has too many ghetto black people and white trash that copies ghetto culture who wishes they were black. That’s the problem. Plain and simple.

At the airport now. Need a drink.

True, but if ATL is black Mecca, New Orleans is black Chechnya.
I moved here a year ago with a young family. Location is key, I work near the Airport and live in Peachtree City. It is a little slice of fantastic middle to upper middle class suburbia, almost to a fault. If I had to commute to mid town or god forbid Buckhead I would have to move somewhere north, that is the primary drawback.
From way down here I can make it to Inman Park, the Aquarium or Zoo in 45 minutes, on the weekend.
The major selling point for me was a modern metropolis in the south with a diverse economy and all of the ancillary lifestyle benefits. Unlike Nola or even Houston, the failure of a single industry will not tank our economy or home values. It certainly has its drawbacks like traffic outside of your commute (I refuse to drive to SunTrust Park on a weekday), but the perks are fantastic.
I lived in urban Washington DC and Chicago, when life necessitated a move to the suburbs, Atlanta, and more specifically Peachtree City, was way more appealing than Naperville and a hell of a lot cheaper than Arlington or Montgomery Counties.
And to the poster who said there are too many places named Peachtree- 100% agreed!

There is an awesome Belgian beer bar in F, totally under the radar.

ATL is a cool city but it’s nowhere close to a beach.
Mountains and lakes, yes.

Traffic is terrible
The city has EVERYTHING
I’d rather live in the suburbs

I think the point is that you are within a reasonable drive to all of these features, not that you can load up the car and get to the beach in an hour.
For instance, you are about 4.5 hrs from Jekyll Island and Saint Simon's. Maybe 3.5 hrs to Hilton Head. 5.5 hrs to either Myrtle Beach or Panama City. These are all reasonable drives if you want to leave early Friday afternoon and spend a weekend.

I love Atlanta if I could have several homes.

North and Midtown Atlanta are pretty legit. South Atlanta is a demilitarized zone. My parents have been living in the Atlanta Metro since 2007 and I have absolutely no problem with it. The city has a little bit of everything for everyone.

The Atlanta area is full of Mills, Bridges, and Ferrys (not to be confused with fairies, which we also have a plethora of)

Never been there except driving through. Would like to visit one day and do a Braves game and visit the Coke plant. I like touristy stuff.

Lived in Canton/Woodstock for three years. No complaints. Beautiful place close to the mountains.
Miss me some Greenwood’s chicken

Did you know that Atlanta has a smaller population than Mesa Arizona?
Yes, yes, I understand the concept of suburbs. I lived in Tokyo for 6 years where there are suburbs the size of Houston. I just think it is hilarious that a city that likes to build itself as the NYC of the south is beyond Mesa on the US population chart.
Maybe what they need to complete the image is an NHL team.
