Flashlight and Black Bears

A lot of guys on here hunt in black bear country....I'm curious if you use a light walking to your stand before daylight? Same goes for walking out in the afternoon?
Seems like the last thing you'd want to do is spook a big bear BUT will the flashlight spook deer?

I usually wear wrestling shoes when I walk in to hunt so that if a bear jumps on me I'm ready to go.

Safety first. If you legit have bears, make your presence known

I have shined a spotlight at deer (with no gun in hand
I dont think it bothers them in the least. Just like cars.

From my experience, lights don't bother deer

Put a red or green filter on the light.

Dont use red around polar bears.

Hunt with a buddy. You dont have to be faster than the bear. Just faster than your buddy.

Where did this fear of bears come from? The Louisiana sub-species is more afraid of you than you are of it. Am I missing something here?

No need for a light when you have excellent eye rods

I used to walk in and out the woods/swamp without a flashlight when I could. I don’t even try anymore. I want to see every cypress knee in front of me before I step on them and twist my ankle ??

Where did anyone mention being afraid of the bear?

Have you ever seen some drunks in a bar wrestle a bear for prize money?
If you ever get the chance, go watch that shite.

I usually don't use a light for seeing. I use a light for being seen by people who maybe should not be where they are and are stupid, crazy and/or willing to take a shot at movement.
If I was looking to avoid bears, I'd probably use a flashlight, also.

I walked up really close on a bear on the way out to a stand one time. Even though it ran away as soon as it saw me, I almost had a heart attack.
I have used a hat clip light every single time since. Doesn't seem to bother the deer but it isn't very powerful either.

How would you walk in the dark without a light?

I got charged last year on Tensas NWR and I called the game warden to inform him and was told 2 other people were charged in the same area that he knew of. So while I agree 99% of them will run it only takes one that is not afraid. Or that one time you accidentally run up on a sow with cubs.
