re: Sitka vs Kuiu

I have been researching Sitka, Kuiu and SKRE. I've come to the realization that Sitka is just too much money. I think I am going to buy the whitetail bundle from SKRE on Black Friday when it goes on sale. I'll also buy e-gift cards today for 10% off to use on my purchase for more savings. There is a great review on this gear on rokslide, and I think it'll really do fine for the majority of my hunting. I hunt, LA, MS, AL the most, next year I will be going to IL for a week, and the year after that ID. By that time I'll have built what I need starting with SKRE this year, and adding some pieces here and there on sale.

I have alot of KUIU gear and love it. That being said, Sitka does have lines that are more tailored to the hunting down hear i.e. waterfowl and treestand hunting, more for being stationary. Kuiu is crafted around being light and mobile. They both are geared toward layering though. As stated earlier, the KUIU attack pants are amazing. Best hunting pants I've ever owned, and you will notice that that is a common thought. Along with the attack pants the wool from KUIU is top notch. I wear the 145 merino 1/4 zip on just about every hunt, as a top when its warm, or a base layer when its cold. How that stuff regulates heat so well i have no idea, but it is amazing. It has stretch but its from the way they weave it, not from elastic so the garment is 100% merino. The merino bottoms are really nice as well since they zip and you can put them on/take them off without removing your boots. Really nice for when you need to add a layer or remove one if you get down from the treestand to walk. I think for the money (w/ KUIU being direct to consumer) KUIU is best for base layer and insulation, but sitka may be better for outerwear.

SKRE most definitely has good reviews. I don’t see anything about scent control though. I’m still trying to find the fanatic stuff by Sitka for now. I hunt in Tx, Ws, Ms, and prob Ks or Il next year

You are going to have a tough time finding Sitka this time of year. Most of the stuff that will be going on sale on black friday for example will be stuff that is being discontinued or random layering garments. Sitka will "reload" so to speak after the first of the year with their 2019 line, in the spring, and once again in the summer around June just prior to hunting season. I had to wait over a month to get the Fanatic line in the size I needed. Plus with the Fanatic it's not a bad idea to size up

Scent controls is not so easy, you can try to limit it, but you have to play wind. My dog can track someone who is decked out in Scentlok with no problems, deer have a much better sense of smell.

on the attack pants did you buy your normal size or size up for a base layer. IE if I'm wearing 32" waist khaki today, 32 or 34"

I deer hunt in my Optifade Timber pattern duck clothing. Its a darker pattern which I feel blends in better with the side of a tree or ehile sitting in a ground blind

This is tough and the best answer is to pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the Kuiu size chart. The owner of Kuiu wanted to build athletic build only, so everything fits small. I had to size up 2 (ie, if I wear 38, size up to 42) in some but if I recall the attack pant I only sized up 1. That was enough for me to fit a base layer and the pant but nothing else and feel very comfortable.
Bottom line with Kuiu is trust their size chart and measure precisely. It's supposed to fit tightly and still be comfortable so keep that in mind.

I use a lot of Kuiu gear and love it. While I bought most of it for western hunts, there is nothing saying you can't crawl into a blind in it! Find sales, and even watch rokslide classified ads for barely worn or brand new equipment for sale.

Like Warrior Poet said, pay attention to the sizing chart. It’s definitely designed for an “athletic” fit. Go a size up if you’re on anything but on the absolute lower end of a range.

I don’t know if they still make it but one of their warmest jackets was the Incinerator Jacket.
Incinerator for extreme cold
Stratus is all you need for the South
Stratus is going to be more quite...but the Hudson Jacket Optifade is pretty but not as quiet

I’ve been seeing ads on Instagram for new clothing company called Duck Camp. Pretty cool patterns and what not but haven’t tried anything yet.

I hunt out of state bow hunts.... what is this gear like when walking for a mile or so? Does it hold up well when walking through grass fields that have burrs and stickers/briars? Any problems with rips, tears, or snags that pull on fabric? Any problems with burrs getting imbedded in fabric and a problem getting out?
I have the cabelas wolliemate right now and love them with the exception of the burrs getting imbedded in fabric and near impossible to get out. Also they are a lil bulky so this is why I’m considering other options!
Thanks

Good think we're not talking First Lite today, there whole site is a wreck on the day they launched their holiday sale. 502 and 504 errors like crazy, impossible to shop.

I told my wife to wait until today to buy me a couple things from there. The few times I’ve been able to get on the website, nothing is on sale as far as I can tell.

Does Sitka have any full zip down the leg pants or bibs? From the waist band to the bottom of the leg like Kuiu has?
