Can anyone give me more info on these brands. I know they’re both high end clothes but which is better or are they the same? Are they better in different situations? Thanks for any info

Sitka 100% I have all their whitetail and waterfowl gear and it’s the best clothing I’ve ever owned

To my knowledge, Kuiu is more geared towards big game/ mounitous hunting conditions like sitka was originally marketing to until they came out with their waterfowl line. I cant speak for kuiu but I love the sitka waterfowl gear. Personally, I couldnt afford it myself without it being discounted but I have loved mine. Actually purchased more today

Sitka Big Game (original optifade and subalpine) are made for that too. Optifade was the first sitka line and was intended for the western sheep hunter and elk hunter

Kuiu is made by a former owner of Sitka.

They are for the most part the same. Except Sitka has larger sizes for all of us fat boys

I own most of the Sitka waterfowl timber line including waders and love it. Sitka builds quality and well thought out gear. Everything is based on a layering for cold so you can match exactly how much warmth you need for the situation and easily shed layers as the day warms up. Not familiar with Kuiu, however if you can stomach the price tag of Sitka, I would highly recommend.

If you hunt whitetail or waterfowl, Sitka.

If you hunt elk, sheep, or any other style of mountain hunting, they are for the most part the same except Sitka has larger sizes and has gore tex. Kuiu does not ha e large sizes and does not have gore tex, which is why I prefer their rain gear.

I prefer Sitka except for
Kuiu rain gear
Kuiu attack pant (awesome pant)
Kuiu DCS Guide Jacket (awesome light jacket)

Jason Hairston, who recently passed away started both.

The biggest issue that I see is that I can’t see Kuiu camo patterns working well in the south.

What Sitka jacket and bibs should I be looking at for deer hunting? Do you buy it as a system (multiple jackets)?

I only own cheaper camp, but would like to invest in some better, less bulky stuff in the next couple years

Everyone needs a Kuiu Bino Harness, which happens to be on sale right now.

I always thought that harness design like the Kuiu or Badlands was way overkill but after having used the Badlands bino harness crawling around in the snow I quickly learned the need for this style. Buddy could not even use his binoculars on a stalk hunt because of the eyecups filling with snow and debris while crawling through the snow.
Really like the magnetic closure of the Badlands.

what temps/style of hunting are you looking to?

Sitka basically only makes three sets of whitetail jacket/bibs

Fanatic - super cold
Stratus - cold
Fanatic lite - cool

But if you're just wanting an all around jacket/pant, the equinox pants and equinox jacket/hoodie are pretty nice.

I don’t know if they still make it but one of their warmest jackets was the Incinerator Jacket.

What if I’m just sitting in a box stand and not crawling on the ground? What are the benefits for this type of harness?

My suggestion is to start with a good base layer. I have used merino wool from blackovis.com for several years (I bought while it was deep discounted from camofire.com)

Then I suggest you get yourself a simple set of sitka equinox pants and something like the equinox hoodie or fanatic hoodie (a lot of people like this hoodie) and the fanatic gloves.

Take that setup into the woods for a season and then see how "warm" you need to get from there. If that covers you in most spots, fanatic lite is a great set of gear tailored for bowhunters. If you need slightly more warmth, consider layering more with fanatic lite or stepping up to the stratus. If you get nut-freezing cold, I own the fanatic regular bibs, jacket, and vest and have never once felt cold in them.

I bought my dad an Alaska Guide Creations harness this year and he ended up putting so much shite in it that he stopped having to carry a backpack all together and was able to put everything in some small molle zip pouches and his bino harness. It ended up being perfect for him because he is older and was having a pretty tough time carrying everything to the stand that he needed.

you are right I completely forgot about that one - I always just ignore it because I can't afford it

But yes, to the other guy who asked, sitka also makes the incenerator jacket and bibs. These are basically everything the fanatic jacket and bibs are + they are waterproof gore-tex.

I’ve been trying to hunt down the fanatic jacket and bibs with no luck. Guess they’ve sold out every where in my size. Know several people that have this set up and all have good things to say about them
