Have you ever given a eulogy?

I have not, I don’t think I’d be able to get through without breaking down. I have a lot of respect for people who can get up there and do it. (I’m talking about someone very close to you)

Gave my mom's.
Rough. But, so happy I did

I hate public speaking and I hate funerals so I doubt I would be able to hold myself together.

Yes. But the person was finally at peace after a nasty battle with pancreatic cancer. Was more of a relief to give the eulogy than a burden.
Whole funeral was a happy recollection really. Thinking about her before cancer got her.

I’ve wanted to before but just too much of a pussy I guess. I can see how you’d be proud of yourself for doing it.

As long as it isn't a tragic death I could do it. Most of my family has died of old age and I wasn't too tore up about any of it because they lived long fulfilled lives.
Someone meeting a sudden and untimely end I'm guessing would be much harder.

Did my dad's. Nothing prepared. My 9 year old (at the time) son got up unprompted and gave one right after me. That was a proud moment, although sad, of course.

I understand the "not wanting to". My voice was a little quavery at first...but, my mom was dead, so it SEEMED appropriate. Ha. It was more the fear to talk than the sorrow.
But, everyone there is a supporter and after it starts it just flows. I wrote the notes on some scraps of paper and in terrible handwriting. My wife collected them when I was finished (I did not know she had) and gave them to me later. I am NOT sentimental. But, I really do treasure those notes.

My buddy’s wedding. Nobody caught on what I was really saying.

My wife and her siblings wanted me to do it when her mom died. I did not accept because I was just as bad as them. I did not feel like I could get up there without breaking down.

Gave my father's. With no false modesty, it was awesome.

Did my grandfather's earlier this year.
I cried like a bitch before and after but I somehow held myself together for it pretty well.

I wish I could have for my dad’s last year. I couldn’t get up the courage...

I gave my brother’s. I don’t know how. I didn’t really write anything. I just got up there and started talking and said what felt right. It was probably the hardest speech of my life. I know I choked up but I didn’t break down.
He died at 21

Gave both my Grandmother and Grandfather’s.....both called “words of wisdom” by the church. Grandma’s was first one I ever gave and I literally cried for 30 minutes beforehand at the church with the minister. I am a great at public speaking and sales.....toughest and most emotional thing I’ve ever done. Got through it. Gave my grandpa’s about 16 months later. Still very tough.....but am very proud to have done that for all our family and all their friends. RIP grandma and grandpa

I'm not a particularly good public speaker. I was asked to at my grandfather's funeral but didn't think I'd be able to keep it together. He was like a dad to me.
