I actually know the original owner and just asked. It was originally wood burning.

How old? Fire bricks not cracked? Last time the flue was cleaned?

I would have a pro inspect it. That and check if there is a need to up grade the gas line or removing it.

That's good news. But like Fish said, I'd have it inspected and cleaned to make sure the flue is clean and the gas line is capped or can be converted to a gas starter for wood. That beats the heck out of a complete remodel, unless you're into that

If it was originally wood burning then it is very easy. Just have a plumber disconnect the gas logs/burner and install a log lighter. You may need to purchase a new grate if you don't have the original.

If it had been a gas only fireplace (ventless/b-vent/direct vent) there would not have been a conversion. You would have to replace the box/pipe and most likely the fireplace surround.
