I agree it was dumb as hell to say because of the sensitive-arse climate we live in, but is there any evidence she meant it in any sort of racist manner? Wasn’t she just making a lame joke using hyperbole to say she would have gone to anything the dude asked her to?

Yes, but the media will make it into something far, far worse. Which she sort of should have thought about beforehand.

Smith's handlers should have sent her on a vacation to Siberia until after the election.

It really doesn't matter what the context was or what she actually meant behind it.

It should be common fricking sense to never say anything like that in public. There's a million other ways to try and make the point that she was attempting to make that doesn't end with the entire nation calling you a bigot.

No wonder she refused to publicly debate for so long.....she's a fricking idiot.

If the media, et al, are getting on her for that, if I were her, I would double down, and tell them to get a life and stop with the hyper sensitive shite, that means absolutely nothing.

Hyde Smith later said that:

quote:

"In a comment on Nov. 2, I referred to accepting an invitation to a speaking engagement," Hyde-Smith said. "In referencing the one who invited me, I used an exaggerated expression of regard, and any attempt to turn this into a negative connotation is ridiculous."

She was a Democrat until 2010 when she switched parties.

There doesn't have to be. They will run a story about it being racist and then other articles will cure that story as evidence that it is racist.

It is part of the playbook.

Well, it wasn’t a joke. It was a casual expression like “run around the bush” or “the horse is out of the barn.” It’s akin to saying in New York that someone is “such a Shylock.” It isn’t a joke.

What it does, however, is that it identifies her culturally as someone who doesn’t give a shite if her casual expressions are horrifying to the black citizens she hopes to represent. It’s a liability.

Yes, but you just can't make stupid jokes anymore because the fracking left snowflakes take everything out of context. There is no context for the right in their minds. Everything is racist, misogynistic or homophobic. They are humorless NPCs.
