Reading that other states legalized marijuana. Why was this not a topic on the ballot in New Orleans?

I'm guessing the guy was stoned and forgot to put it on there.

Because we like being last at most things, much like the rest of the south. Just look at state rankings.

And the power of the sheriff's lobby.

Oh, and we need to do a few studies first.

We will be among the very last, even after the Feds leave it up to states in the next 4 years or so.

49th or 50th state I'll bet.

1. The top half of the state is in the Bible belt. They believe you need to be protected from yourself from sinning.
2. There hasn't been enough time for the political cronies/insiders to have made their money from the complicated medical MJ system yet.
3. Cops need a bullshite reason to lock up black people.
4. More prisoners mean more money for privatized prisons.
5. Nobody wants to go to bat for it in the state legislature for fear of being branded a stoner, and it's likelyhood of passing and getting to a vote is zero. Nevermind that the people would probably vote it in.

Because LA is always behind the schtick. Sports betting, MJ, etc...

This is a big one. Have spoken with someone in the know regarding investors in the initial entries/openings for the med. marijuana business.

Most people in this state are stupid enough already. They don't need any help from the devil's lettuce.

Louisiana's constitution has no provisions for signature driven referendums. Most of the states that have legalized have passed it via referendum.

Stupid and stoned are less destructive than stupid and drunk or methed up.

I'm buying stock in Popeyes once we near the time of widespread legalization.

I'm sorry I didn't realize New Orleans was the whole state.
