quote:

The current state minimum wage will go from $8.50 per hour to $9.25 on Jan. 1, 2019, then to $10 per hour on Jan. 1, 2020, and to $11/hour on Jan. 1, 2021.

In early numbers from the Secretary of State’s office, Issue 5 received 68.39% support while 31.61% were opposed.

The issue received support from many in the state’s labor organizations, saying the increase was needed to help people while opponents said the increase would create an impact on the cost of doing business especially for small to medium sized businesses.

That's terrific news for unskilled workers in north Louisiana.

I don't believe minimum wage should exist at all, so I disagree with the principle.

Although Arkansas should do what they want. This should absolutely be a state by state issue.

Does the increase apply to the undocumented labor crews at the chicken plants? I hope so. Maybe then American unskilled labor may take the job.

I took an economics class once, so of course, I think this is stupid.

Dumb move in general. Smart on the slow increase at least.

I dont know why people dont dust off all the promises by the dems back in '06 (iirc) when the national min wage was increased. Where are we with that being the answer??

If we’re going to have a minimum wage, I don’t mind attempts to keep up with inflation. I do mind people making arguments that minimum wage jobs should provide living wage salaries.

the minimum wage will never be a living wage. Raise it all you want but skilled labor will go up as well as everything else...essentially keeping that hourly rate the same as it's always been

I could care less. If $11 is so attractive, then quit your current job and go get a minimum wage one.

Why did they stop at $11? If $11 is good, wouldn't $50 be better?

The increase will make low-income workers worse off, not better, because it forces employers to cut back on hiring and hours to afford paying higher wages.
