Biggest Key to Victory: Stopping the run

Tua is garnering much of the talk but Alabama is going to come out and try to pound the ball in the first half. This team has struggled AT TIMES against teams that can move the ball inside the tackles. It's where Florida and Georgia had their most success and our ability to stop the run was the key against Auburn and Miami.
We have to keep Bama in 2nd and 3rd-and-long to get off the field and win the field position battle. an underrated player to watch Saturday will be John Battle, who will be asked to come up and tackle RB's as well as defend the middle of the field on passing downs. We're going to need a huge effort from he and the front 3.

It rides on the LSU running game and Burrow making the key throws. Burrow has to have his top game.

They have been pretty awful at run blocking this year yet incredible at pass blocking. They are going to throw the ball all over the field
It absolutely terrifies me he will be asked to play coverage against this trio of WRs. Look no further than Georgia’s final TD pass when he was in man coverage on the outside

Well...God knows we can do that..Aranda seems to adjust very quickly in game and especially in the 2nd half......he may have to earn his pay on this one, but I know we can count on him.

Biggest key is the play of both lines... slowing down their run. Eliminate big pass plays. Make them work for every point

Stopping thier rushing attack us a much easier task than stopping tua, so I hope that us the key.

Me too, brother. Battle is the weakest link in an otherwise strong chain. I think Todd Harris will emerge next season as a playmaker and think the only reason Battle is on the field is because he's a veteran. Also, could we see more Ed Paris this week on passing downs?

I agree, but if LSU is playing only 5 or 6 in the box they will try to run down our throat. It's in the DNA of that program to at least try.

no. it's third down conversion rate and indirectly completion %. both things lsu doesnt exactly excel in

eta: we have to keep their offense and our defense off the field as much as possible. if we cant extend drives the defense will eventually exhaust. the only way lsu wins is by extending drives, ie burrow completes a decent % of third down throws.

COUldnt agree more. They are going to come out & try and pound us. They know misdirection stuff & outside runs has killed us

In the 2012 game, LSU was 10/20 on 3rd downs. Alabama was 1/9 on 3rd downs.
That led to a 10min time of possession advantage for LSU. Chavis baby soft defense still blew it at the end. Their secondary is talented but very young. Burrow to Jefferson needs to be like Mettenberger to Juice in this game.

Judging by his performances in the Georgia and ole miss games in tiger stadium.. he will be ready. No game is too big for this kid. If we were playing at bama I wouldn’t be feeling the same. This kid is different. He has it!!

I would say stopping the run and their pass rush / crazy blitz schemes. Oline has to have their best game of the year

Biggest key is in the trenches. Who controls the LOS on both sides of the ball.
Putting BAMA in 2nd and 3rd and long isn't necessarily something I would suggest. Tua completes 79% of his throws on 2nd down and is 78.5% on 3rd down 4+ to go.

1.) John Battle is not underrated - he is by far the weakest we have in the secondary and is a major liability
