Man, I remember where I was when they performed at Rite Aid.

like, seriously. then why even make a Queen movie if not just to remind everyone how awesome you used to be and hopefully sell some records.
Because everyone who goes and sees this movie knows Freddie dies of AIDS.
This thread is full of people with excuses. Go watch the fricking movie. Enjoy the music. That’s what the band and Freddie’s intentions were anyway. If I wanted to watch bunch of gay dudes fricking, I know where the nearest porn site is located

Truth be known, prior to publicity about the movie as it was filming, I had no idea that Freddie was bi. No clue that he had a long-time GF, or that he'd ever had any interest in women at all.
They're very circumspect about his homosexuality, and really key in on the internal struggle within Freddie about wanting to be himself while appearing to want a life with Mary. It's only once he departs the band for a solo venture that shite gets out of hand with the Blue Oyster Club type stuff.

Curious for the people saying it’s movie of the year, why are the reviews so mixed?

Maybe same reason the initial reviews of the song were so brutal? I honestly don't know what the "professional" critics are thinking if they shite on this film.
It has everything you could want for one that's critically praised - a portrayal of an iconic performer that was widely loved who died tragically young; a glimpse behind the curtain of the genesis of some of the best rock songs of all time; humor, gut-wrenching human tragedy.
Better than some ginned-up Meryl Streep BS where she puts on ANOTHER accent as some stone-faced bitch.

Funny how the tide has turned. A truly awesome movie in A Star is Born was in the middle of its run and people were looking a month ahead to this fluff piece.

It’s currently killing it on audience score on RT

Rumors said that they were trying to pay off some critics for good reviews but they all have them bad. It was really good though and up there with A star is born and mid 90s for best of the year so far so I don’t get the bad reviews at all.

Mrs. Vox was watching The Great Pretender doc on Reelz this morning, and apparently there's a lot of creative license taken with the timeline at the end of the movie. Paul Prenter wasn't a villain as portrayed in the movie, and he didn't get the boot until after Live Aid.

Have you seen 8th grade, first man, first reformed, isle of dogs, sorry to bother you?
Posted on 11/2/18 at 3:00 pm to FightnBobLafollette
Only haven’t seen First Man will see it this week though. They were good but not top tier and worthy of any awards.

Disagree about tier. But that’s cool.
I thought 8th grade was amazing and stunning directorial debut for Bo Burnham.

Maybe it was just the theatre I went to, but that was the loudest damn movie

I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my 11 year old. I was concerned it might be lame with the PG-13 rating but they pulled it off. There were drugs but not really any on camera drug use. Drugs in background. And there were 2 man on man make out scenes. My son was cringing and hiding his eyes. But what a great piece. I’m a big Queen fan, so I’m biased. But I did cry more than once.
