my custom 300/221, aka 300 Whisper, aka 300 BO. Purchased to mainly shoot hogs and have fun with. Not sure I'd use this to shoot deer since I already own other rifles that are dedicated for deer hunting.

I'd consider a 12 or 20 gauge rifled slug gun. Great gun for 120 yards and under in thick stuff.
Would open up your options to hunt in places that only allow slug or muzzleloaders also.
