Sony announced the full, 20-game lineup for its PlayStation Classic mini console on Monday, revealing that games like the original Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto and Resident Evil will be included with the system.

Sony plans to launch the PlayStation Classic worldwide on Dec. 3 — the 24th anniversary of the PlayStation’s release. The retro console will retail for $99.99 in the U.S., £89.99 in the U.K., €99.99 in Europe and 9,980 yen in Japan.
The Japanese version of the PlayStation Classic will have a different lineup, with a bigger focus on role-playing games and side-scrolling shoot ‘em ups.

I'll say it again, PS1 graphics don't hold up at all, and with no dual anaglog, hard pass.

I wonder though. Because the majority of these games are 3D titles, will they render at 1080P or native resolution?
Kind of disappointed there's no Capcom fighter on the list and that it's Twisted Metal 1 instead of 2.
Also Rainbow Six on PSX is a very odd choice.

Parasite Eve on the Japanese version but not US version sucks. That was a great game. Also, would have loved to see Legend of Dragoon on that list. Really dumb that there is no way to add games to the device after the fact. Might actually make it worth buying :-/

Why bother? Most Playstation fans already have a PS1,PS2, or PS3, all of which can play these PS1 games.

Is that confirmed? I know Nintnedo has done that but I figured that was them being them.

Only ones I'm interested in is MGS and RE1. I have RE1 remastered on Steam. So I'd essentially be buying this for one game.
They couldn't bother to put Symphony of the Night on here? or Medievil? or Silent Hill 1?
wtf is Mr Driller? Cool Boarders 2? what a waste.

And there's, officially, 68 different ways to play FFVII now. I guess they felt they HAD to, but there's better ways to play it.

I remember laughing my arse off when I played destruction derby. Wonder if those bugs still hold up.

Syphon Filter was my shite. Wish they had Road Rash too.

Eh. Some good titles but I could buy a PS3 and digital rights to those for cheaper than this.
In general, PS doesn’t have the kinds of platform exclusive first party stuff that would really sell something like this.
The only stuff which hasn’t been ported from the Playstation to another platform are games like Siphon Filter, Jumping Flash, Destruction Derby, etc, which really don’t hold up well.
And I think anyone buying this for GTA will be sorely disappointed, as the series sucked until GTA3.

Depends on the genre but mostly agree.

Right there with you.
Road Rash, despite being a 3DO port, was a hell of a fun game.

Looking at this lineup again makes me say wtf.
Is it me or is this a terrible choice of games?

I'll stick with my mediocre selection of classic games on the switch thank you very much

It’s not just you.
Rights issues probably played a big part, with games such as Crash Bandicoot being either unavailable or not feasible since they have been released so widely for other platforms recently.
Other choices are a little more puzzling since they obviously got games from those publishers but not some titles people really wanted like Castlevania SOTN or Twisted Metal 2.
It also doesn’t help that the PS1 had a much trashier library than the NES or SNES due to open publishing standards.

I wasn't expecting Crash since everyone bought it the remastered.
Wasn't expecting just because of the remaster but that game is a must on this console.

I think that explains a lot of it. That and licensing issues (Gran Turismo).
Not sure how we got a Destruction Derby though but no Wipeout.

Completely different style of game to be sure, but I enjoyed GTA 1 and 2. There really weren't any games like it at the time that let you free roam a "giant" city causing mayhem like you could in GTA.
3D took the franchise to another level though.

I wouldn't call it terrible. There are some heavy hitters. FF7, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, MGS, Syphon Filter, and Resident Evil are all excellent games.
You also have Rayman, Jumping Flash, Persona, Wild Arms, and Twisted Metal, which while not big name titles, are a lot of fun. I would have gone with Twisted Metal 2 though. I'm really not sure why they selected the first game over the second.
Looking at the games selection though, I think they're banking on a certain level of nostalgia for those first gen 3D titles. I think this is why you have Coolboarders 2, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Destruction Derby on this list.
Taking the list and modifying it some what, this is what I would have gone with:
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Jet Moto 2 (licensing issues with the brands maybe?)
Destruction Derby
Final Fantasy VII
Grand Theft Auto
Silent Hill
Jumping Flash
Metal Gear Solid
Mr Driller
Parappa the Rapper
Rayman
Resident Evil Director’s Cut
Revelations: Persona
Ridge Racer Type 4
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Syphon Filter
Tekken 3
Hotshots Golf 2
Twisted Metal 2
Wild Arms

I wonder what Psycho Mantis is going to read this time?
