4-2-5 during 1st half of bama

With the recent improvement/availability of Alexander and Shelvin, any chance we go 4-2-5 during the first half with divinity and Phillips at LB.
I think it may mask DW’s absence somewhat and make life a little easier on Phillips/divinity life a little easier for the first half.
Would also allow Delpit to play in the box with a little more regularity with 5 dbs.
What y’all think?

I doubt we run 4 down linemen, but this will happen no doubt

Probably will see some of that, along with some other wrinkles. D White being out for the first half completely changes Aranda’s game plan.

Agreed.. Maybe we’ll see some Jacoby Stevens also.

Never good to lose a guy like White, but the unknown could be a gameplanning advantage.

Against anyone else, I would agree. This is Saban, though.

I like the thought of it, but that alignment doesn't leave LSU with a lot of pass-rushers on the field

I know you feel like you really understand football schemes by saying "4-2-5"...but no.
Having less Linebackers only works if you have very very talented linebackers. LSU does but they are not experienced in running that type of defense.
Would not make any sense for Aranda to change up the base layout that the majority of the defense has been in the whole season...for the biggest game of the year.
But if he does, im on board because thats why he gets paid the big bucks.

Tyga,
I didn’t realize we could only play one formation.
Sorry to offend you by discussing football on a football board. And no, I am not an expert, but wanted to discuss it and didn’t see a thread discussing it.
But you sound like an awesome guy. Have a great day.

Ok so you think OPs dumb. Got it.
But then:

So basically you ruin your whole argument cuz you clarify to say that you would like the same idea from a person with more cred.
If it was truly a dumb idea, it would be dumb no matter who presented it.
Basically you think it’s a good idea but aren’t sure if we could implement it in time. Just say that next time.

I think a 3-3-5 would work better and keep shifting alignments. Would really confuse Tua. Flashback to the 97 florida game. Would take some monster balls from the coaching staff to go for this.

"sigh" cant believe i have to help you comprehend this..but i will.
I start out with disagreeing with the OPs opinion by expressing mine.
Then i say that i would support the man that knows way more about defense than any one else probably in the nation (Aranda).

Again, no i dont think its a good idea but if we did it, i would trust Arandas decision way more than the opinion of a random rantard or myself.

Nickel sure, but 4-2-5 is a system all to itself, not merely a sub-package. I'd be happy to explain why if interested.

With White being out on such a bad call that cannot be changed, Alleva should petition the SEC office about being able to use 12 players on defense for the first half.

I agree, we dont want to isolated our inexperienced backers anymore than we have to already. I dont like saying it, but i would almost prefer to force bama to beat us on the ground and take a way the passing game. (at least for the first half). Forcing them to run the ball should help speed up the game.

tua has great downfield vision and good accuracy if he is not pressured. while his receivers get wide open really fast against lesser opponents, they don't against the better defenses. if tua gets a lot of time one of them will come open. even good defenses let receivers get behind coverage a couple times a game. tua is very good at making you pay. Fromm missed his 2 big chances as did Joe Burrow.
so name your poison. 3 man rush with heavy zone coverage (some man) or send 5 or 6 guys in to try to get him. or a mix? i'll be interested to see what aranda comes up with. he's bound to mix things up, as well as having Plan B, C, and D.

i still like the 3 man rush. Allows you to bring more "athletic" pressure from all over. I like our chances of getting pressure with 3 down and then either a blitzing backer/corner/safety as opposed to having 4 down and the rest dropped into coverage. Also when you have 4 down and blitz you're really going to put yourself at risk for the big play (which bamas good at). Although there is no other team in the country that can match up in man coverage and be more successful than LSU.

I don’t mind any of these strategies but for one I do not want fricking John Battle as the single high safety with
Jeudy, Ruggs, and Smith running deep routes .

I agree. I think you groom Stevens for this game to be the X factor. Bama doesn’t have much film on him to prepare.

That's what I was thinking. A couple of 7:00-8:00 minute drives from us (hopefully with some points), plus them running the ball would really eat up the 1st half...
