I'm partial to "El dorado" and "The man who shot liberty Vance." John Wayne isn't going to necessarily win for best actor of all time, but he was certainly larger than life. James Stuart, wasn't all that bad either. What say you?

Most of my favorite movies are westerns but it’s hard to pick one. I’m partial to the older ones and remain a sucker for the genre.

Wow, that's not easy as I have many favorites. I like "310 To Yuma". I also like "The Shootist". My dad go me into westerners and I watch the tv shows all he time.

I'm partial to Clint for the category, Outlaw Josey Wales, TGTBATU, and The Unforgiven are all way up there.

I also like the Duke in the classics - the Cavalry "trilogy", Rio Bravo, The Searchers, Big Jake, Rio Lobo, True Grit, The Shootist.

Other than Tombstone, High Noon and Shane, tough to get another non-Duke/non-Clint movie in my Top 20, Top 25.

Once Upon a Time in the West

It is the pinnacle of the Western genre. So many filmmakers have named it as a key influence in them wanting to make films.

There’s probably several more I’m forgetting. I love western movies. Used to watch Bonaza and the Lone Ranger all of the time as a kid.

The clear winner and only correct answer. As great as many others are, this is one of the greatest movies ever made, not just westerns.

Meh. I'm not sure it is even the best Leone film - still partial to TGTBATU.

Great film, though.

The Searchers

Other than The Shootist, The Searchers was The Duke's best work IMO, mainly because his character is not necessarily a good guy....I mean he wants to put a bullet in Natalie Wood's head. He does not hide his hatred of Indians ( Native Americans) and he's ornery all around.

However I am a sucker for any movie John Wayne was in where he shared billing with Maureen O'Hara (The Quiet Man, McClintock! Big Jake).....one classy Dame!!!!
