I believe that the administration has sold out to private companies aka block party and restricting tailgates on the parade ground just gives them more opportunity to sell prime real estate to corporate buyers or opposing fans

Get all the Greeks to get on board with not going to the games. Don't buy student tickets next year. That'll send a very clear message.

~10,000 unsold student tickets will send the message pretty damn quick. ~10,000 unfilled seats will too. Watch their heads spin as the stadium is 1/6 empty at kickoff and they are thousands of dollars short in reserved seating that they can't sell to the general public on short notice. You'll catch the university with it's pants down. They rely on those tickets to sell every year.

You want to stick it to them? That's your only play to do so aside from bitching on the internet.

Too bad LSU Greeks are collectively too big of pussies to follow through with that--they'll just try and tailgate elsewhere incognito, until the university catches on later down the line.

Was a Greek back in undergrad years ago. You could also try not forcing pledges to drink... I know every house aside from Phi Delt had nothing to do with the death, but put yourself in the administration's shoes--they have been looking for an excuse to nip this in the bud for a long time, Phi Delt handed it to them on a silver platter.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Maybe the Greeks can stay longer for games now and their section won't be empty 5 minutes after kickoff

When I was in high school, my parents told me that I wasn’t allowed to drink.

I still did.

Had an extended argument with my wife about this last night.

She was in a sorority while we were undergrads (I was GDI, but ran in those circles). She could not understand why LSU was doing this because this was going to drive a lot of kids to other schools. I explained to her this had been the goal of the administration at LSU for almost 2 decades because frats/sororities are "elitist" and "exclusionary" and the current SJW admins at LSU want to get rid of that.

In part, this is also why they are going for the "holistic" admissions process. A TOPS grab, while at the same time bringing in a bunch of kids that would likely never get a bid (or even an invite).

A suspect statement.

But I don't think it would be too hard to come up with the things that the Greeks have been doing that DON'T help recruit new students (Maxwell Gruver), which is why the President of the University has to insist that Greek functions have security.

Speaking as a Greek, I get tired of having to defend the entire concept of fraternities because you dipshits managed to kill ANOTHER one of your "brothers" by drinking him to death.

Act like all the things you claim to be and represent, stop being a liability to the University's image, and this kind of stuff will go away.

Why can't you just hire another security company?

I can understand it might take a game or two to get someone else in there, but cancelling for the entire season seems to be an overreaction

With all the issues going on in this crazy world, and the real problems people have, Greek tailgating and the band playing Neck really don’t mean squat.

Until the frat douches learn to pick up after themselves they can kick rocks. It's a fricking disgrace what the parade ground looks like at kickoff: a sea of solo cups and other trash.

Err it looks bad to use kill and Greeks in the same post.

My point is all this is all this is because of stupid, childish things that students and the Greeks have done.

Maybe it's over the top, but then maybe the administration is tired of it and also doesn't want more law suits.

Well, there are too many idiot frat boys (and girls) who have little self-control when it comes to alcohol. I guess some people cannot learn vicariously from what has been done before.

I do not like the rule, but the frats brought it on themselves.

This started over a decade ago when all the frats would absolutely trash the parade ground, then leave it there for someone else to deal with. Couches, recliners, etc.

Don't act like assholes and you won't be treated like one. Also, what prevents y'all from tailgating places besides your house or the parade ground?

Can Greeks not just have a “non sanctioned” tailgate like everybody else does? Just curious.

Why can't the kids just go drink on campus / in their rooms, like the other 95% of campus does on gameday?

i'm not reading all of this thread but why blame King? I would say the Greeks (or at least some of them) screwed their own pooch. they should be held accountable for their behavior. just the fact that they were mandated to have outside security tells me they were not trusted to behave correctly. contrary to some, you can party and have a great time without being an "animal". and if someone gets hurt or a girl is attacked who gets sued? LSU, that's who.

Maybe they can now stay for the whole game without passing out or puking. The empty stands for a top 10 team is pathetic
