Illegal immigration, Welfare and other handouts are the reasons why our wages on the low end are so low.

There is no simple solution, but shoring those two economic blown gaskets would help to stabilize things.

As long as prices are competitive good for Bezos and employees

If you notice, the annual fee went up to $120, and the Amazon prices that used to be hard to beat have gone up.

It was the first rate increase since 2014 and announced more than 6 months before this. The services since 2014 has also added video and music.

You do realize that Amazon is a distributor not a manufacturer correct?

I can’t believe how many people are bitching about this. Amazon only does this if the company is doing well and the economy is strong.

This is a good article about their seasonal force I read a couple years ago or so. Pretty interesting and I’ve met a few older people that actually are on this circuit. Kind of sad or bittersweet.

Fascinating. A little scary though

Are you going to pay everyone the same or are you also going to increase wages the same percent for people that were already above it.

Hey Bill, you were making $11.75. now you will make $15. Jon was making $7.25 as an entry level, now he's going to make the same $15 an hour

I have always wondered about this scenario and how it would play out. A guy/girl who put in their 5-10 years of service and in an instant the new guy is making the same hourly wage as you. Of course I'd be grateful for the raise but at the same time I'd be a little irritated. It's like those years of service just vanished.

I’m just interested to see how far people are willing to let one company integrate into their lives.

So far Amazon is in or contemplating;
-e-commerce
-Omni-commerce
-Grocery
-Media (tv; film)
-banking
-homes
-tickets (concerts)
-home automation (ring; Alexa)
-cars/media
-list goes on...

How far are people willing to let their life be dominated by one entity? Pretty sure people really willing to give Amazon keys to their house and access to babies soon enough here.

No issue with a private company doing this. They know their market better than some government bureaucrat does.

Well, would you look at that. Didn't need the govt to force them to do it. They did it all by themselves.

Amazon raises wages
Amazon then advocates for all competitors to raise their wage
Amazon slowly integrates robotics eliminating human employment
Amazon leaves competitors in the dust

Interesting that the guy in the article said his $250,000 nest egg was going to give him $4,000 a month in income. That's a nice return.

This may be a clue to where they plan their second headquarters. Is LA in the mix?
