Houston Chronicle article

quote:

That spokesperson also added that a previously-announced Katy location is still in the early planning stages. The chain was founded in the early 2000s by Jack Warner and Brandon Landry. The idea for the chain was born out of a concept they created while both were in an entrepreneurship class at LSU. The boys received a C-plus on their project, but weren't deterred by the middling grade. The name of the chain comes from the fact that both Warner and Landry were walk-ons for the LSU basketball team in the late '90s, when they struck up a friendship.

Televised sporting events, big patios, beer and alcohol, waitresses in cheerleader outfits and Cajun food have been the keys to Walk-On's success. Houston is home to one of the biggest LSU fan bases in the region. And seeing the purple and gold colors flown on fall Saturdays is a common sight that will likely help it latch on in these parts. In 2015 New Orleans Saints quarterback legend Drew Brees and his wife Brittany signed on to own a stake in the company, only boosting its appeal for some. He is now listed as a co-owner and partner on the brand's website.

There are now 23 Walk-On's locations including four in Baton Rouge alone and two in New Orleans and scattered locations in Louisiana's biggest suburbs. They have also entered the Texas market in San Antonio, Waco, Lubbock, and Tyler as well. A College Station location is set to open this coming spring. Fun fact: Walk-On's also seems to be one of the few sports bars we know of that offers up a Lent-friendly menu.

Better than most other options. I’d go every now and then if there was one close.

Walk On’s used to be decent at best but since they started expanding the food is pretty good for what it is. The total opposite effect of most restaurant expansions.

I enjoy the food. I just wish they would up their beer game. Taplist is what you’d expect from any sports bar from anywhere, USA.

There will be very soon.

Las Colinas, TX
4949 Regent Blvd

Should be opening soon as they broke ground in March. I thought the target date was in October or November.

The one in Covington is terribly mediocre. Bland food, a half step above Chili's.

They are opening a location in northern DFW as well. I guess they are trying to saturate the Texas market.
