247 ranks each teams roster talent every year. There was a lot of talk before the season about the lack of talent on the roster after transfers. Here’s how the rankings shook out:

1. Ohio State
2. Bama
3. UGA
4. USC
5. Clemson
6. LSU
.
.
.
12. Florida
.
14. Auburn
15. Texas A&M
.
.
.
20. Ole Miss
.
22. Mississippi State

LINK

So, it looks like we are the third most talented team in the conference. There’s NO reason we shouldn’t go 10-2 in the regular season.

We fell from 907.1 last year to 889.91 this year, not surprising though considering a lot of star talent from last year's team did leave and we had one of worst recruiting classes by recruiting ratings in 2018 in a while. If we can finish 2019 class strong, could go back up potentially.

I don’t believe UGA and USC have more talent than LSU.

What?

Eta: What does Orgeron's ability to recruit have to do with claiming that he inherited a rebuild?

Dont pay attention to recruiting much then? UGA has recruited their butts off recently. USC never has fallen down much, they get the pick of the litter out west pretty much.

Talent was more of a problem last year, where most of our good players were Freshmen and in some cases, sophomores. We are very talented this year but still in a spot where we have guys learning on the fly.

While we will eventually see an "addition by subtraction" situation on offense from last year to this year, it hasn't happened yet because of injuries to the OL & the uncommon transfer of a starting QB in June. The new offense install is a topic for another day, and has been talked about ad nauseam

Yet If we go 10-2, these people will still bitch. It's an always floating target

These rankings mean little unless compared with the talent per position group. I’d like to see a breakdown of that.

No, 10 regular season wins has been the target average. Everyone says that. No floating. You're making that up or hypothesizing erroneously.

I've seen this repeated over and over and over. From both optimistic and pessimistic fans on here.

ETA:

Added *regular season wins

pretty sure the mantra of this board has been "10-2 no excuses".

Did you read the rest of his post "...where most of our good players were Freshmen and in some cases, sophomores."

A 5 star player with three years in the system is normally a bigger advantage than a 5 star freshman. So Derrius Guice was more valuable and more effective than JaCoby Stevens last year. Rashard Lawrence is way more important than Terrace Marshall this year.

even more reason why this list is pointless.

when you have former 4 and 5 star guys going undrafted or in the 6th-7th round that shows inaccurate ranking and/or poor development

Last year was not more talented than this years team. Players change, high school rankings never do
