13 pass attempts of 20+ yards against Auburn is off the charts. Coach E is breaking new ground with the long ball. Burrow has been accurate on these long tosses to the extent that there have been no picks or near-picks on them. A few nice completions. And some very helpful Pass Interference calls.

Looks to me like 55 or so 20+ yard passes per season is the norm (about 4 20+ attempts per game). Sam Darnold had the most I can find last season, with 92 (about 6 1/2 per game).
Tua Whatshisname has only had eight 20+ yard passes this season - 2.6 per game. (Link below). Tua had 4 in regulation the Natty last year, and 1 more in overtime.

Is that stat measuring where the receiver was at the time of the throw?

This is from the line of scrimmage to where the receiver first touches the ball - NO yards after catch
Good question
Good question

So even though there were a good number of imcompletions, all those downfield throws caused us to get those PI calls on the last drive. Those CBs were stressed and worn out and grasping in desperation.

You guys (rightfully) demanded stats - so here you go :)

Coach E is calling them, but I know O has been a proponent of keeping a team honest with deep passes for awhile. He's cited his time with Payton/the Saints for having to keep them honest to get guys out of the box.

I read some where that O and E met with Sean P to discuss passing game and he told them that you want to take 6-8 big shots in a game. I just hope we continue the offense that is starting to emerge and out big shots aren't 9 routes on the sidelines.

This doesn't stop The Scoreboard run, run, pass, punt complaints

I'm COMPLETELY ok with the deep shots. But right now, LSU's receivers are getting very little separation. The only completely wide open throw Burrow had all day was the sideline route to Jefferson. The pass to Dillion took an absolute dime from Burrow to make it happen.
I love throwing the deep ball. But I think they have to get a little more creative in the scheme to bust some guys wide open. Unfortunately, LSU just doesn't have that blazer on this year's team who can simply outrun DB's

Agree. And, most of the scoring against Auburn was a direct result or substantially aided by these long passes.

I think you need to remove the passes that resulted in PI or another penalty. Those passes are not included in pass charts, as far as I can tell (except where the pass was caught and/or penalty was declined).

3-13 plus 2 PI. Is that good? Essentially 5-15. 33% success rate.

I've read that complaining can aid the digestion of greasy foods. So, it's a good thing for some of tham.

So, eleven 20+ attempts - still off the charts.
[but I don't want to ignore the PI penalties - they can be game breakers]

Now you've got 129 teams left to do.

Thanks for tallying it up.

3/11 + 2PI. That's pretty solid all things considered.

Agreed

Also agreed, I'm just talking about the comparison part of your post. I doubt PI is typically a huge issue in games, but apples to apples and all that.

I'll concede that there may be a qb out west or in Hawaii or somewhere with numbers like this. But if so, they are also WAY off the charts.

What's the national completion percentage for this stat? I don't know.
QB completion percentages are padded with screens and short throws, so I would imagine 20-plus yard throws are in the 30 percent range.
