AMES - A 22-year-old man named Collin Daniel Richards has been arrested and charged with the murder of ISU student Celia Barquin Arozamena on Monday night.
Richards has a criminal history, according to numerous court documents Local 5 went through after the news was released about his arrest late Monday night. According to Ames Police, Richards does not have a last known address. Here's what we found:
--In January 2015, Richards was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon in Guthrie County. According to the criminal complaint, Richards was at a gas station when he tried to steal two energy drinks. He was caught by the clerks, and when confronted, Richards allegedly told the workers that he would come back and "shoot the place up."
--In September 2017, Richards' father called Carroll County Dispatch, stating that he just picked up his son, Collin, from his parents' house, when he noticed multiple doors on the home were damaged, a window had cracks in it. According to court documents, police contacted Collin Richards later that day and he admitted to breaking into the house to retrieve his things as his grandparents told him to leave a few days before. About a month later, warrants were requested for Collin Richards on trespassing and causing more than $200 of damage.
--Most recently, in July 2018, Collin Richards was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was allegedly passed out at a Hy-Vee. He was later taken to the Ames Police station where he was given a chemical test, and his BAC came back at 0.086%.

So just to recap:
-sounds like this guy was probably hanging around the homeless camp along the trail near Coldwater.
-She was likely walking from hole 8 to 9 when he saw her or approached her.
-No apparent screams or noise heard by anyone around, but according the KCCI interview her hat/ball marker were found on the ground, so possibly some sort of struggle.
-He either snuck up on her and completely subdued her, or he approached her and she didn't think anything of it until it was too late.
-a couple posts on here state possible stabbing or attempted sexual assault
-then apparently he put her in the pond, likely right near the #9 tee box.
Just awful. From a golf perspective, those old guys did the right thing letting her play through. Just makes you wonder if this would have happened had she stayed behind them....I guess it's possible since this sicko still had the nerve to do it in broad daylight and somewhat in view of the clubhouse and apartments.

Damn, I bet those guys feel terrible, even though it wasn't their fault at all.

Wonder what the motive for that was
Looking at him, wouldn't shock me if he was a crazy stalker type and she had no idea who he was

How the shite does that happen without anyone noticing, especially if it happened over the weekend?
A lot of stuff can happen on a golf course that no one would hear or see. There are areas of my club I could easily see the potential of someone getting killed and no one finding a body until the maintenance crew came back the following morning.

Yeah, I play courses all the time that are so spaced out no one would hear you scream.
Hell, I scream all the time and no one hears it

I can't believe this isn't the top story nationally. Is it because an American killed a legal immigrant?

Basically. No trumpkins mentioning it since a white male did it. Not making big news because of it. They’ll simply ignore it.
Such a tragedy. This girl had a great future.

The man identified himself as an acquaintance of Richards who previously lived in the same residence. He asked officers something to the effect of "what did he do to her?" according to the complaint.
The man then told police that Richards had said he was "having the urge to rape and kill a woman."

A piece of shite will be a tax burden for the rest of his life, while a family mourns the death of their daughter and future civil engineer.

What a senseless tradegy. I have a friend that lives close to that golf course. When I was there it was always a safe area. What a shame. Time for that state to approve the death penalty. There’s no point allowing scum like that to breath anymore.

It was always safe when I was there. No one there would have ever expected this. I didn’t know there was homeless bums next to the golf course. It’s a shame no one told the police when he said he wanted to take someone’s life. Useless trash like this guy is why every state needs to have the death penalty.
