Burrow Highlights

After watching these, I think he had a better day than the stats indicate. He sailed a few passes, but also had some deflections and drops by his receivers. Also Auburn’s secondary was grabbing all game.

He still needs to work on his progression some, but if the O-line continues to give him time he will get better.

Really been impressed by his ability to not make big mistakes and both his mental and physical toughness.

Kid is showing he can be exactly what the doctor ordered if he keeps working and improving each week.

I’m pretty sure that was the gameplan. Auburn’s secondary has made it a habit of grabbing all season, so Ensminger knew he could exploit that.

His decision making has been terrific. The only "bad" decision was the one where it tried to throw back against his body to Jefferson while being flushed to his left. Luckily it was batted down before Burrow flipped over the fence.

He only missed twice very high. One was the great catch by Jefferson. If it's on target that likely would have been a TD. The other was a sideline out that he sailed. Otherwise, he was on target.

No one is getting separation on the deep ball. Of course, Auburn held a lot, but still, that's worrisome.

He has zero rapport with Giles. LSU is trying to get Giles the ball, but he and Burrow are out of sync.

#57 for Auburn was outstanding Saturday.

Yes. You see the DB mugging your receiver so you throw it over there.

It seemed like there was PI on just about every pass of ours. I still can't believe they didn't call that one in the end zone where the Aub DB was holding the receivers facemask.

Do you think that might have been what had the timing off a little on some of the longer incompletions?

A significant number of the incompletions were passes that JB put where only the LSU receiver could get to them, and were right on the edge of the receiver having a chance. Better to throw a pass where maybe an extraordinary play by the WR would have resulted in a completion and otherwise it's incomplete, than to throw closer into the coverage and risk a turnover. One of JB's more significant stats is 0 turnovers. He knows our WRs are capable of making great plays (the 71 yard TD, the catch on the sideline in the first half, the 1st down catch in the 4th quarter on the sideline), and he doesn't care about his stats if the throw on the edge of catchability happens not to be caught.

Watching that again reminds me how many PI calls they didn't call on Auburn. They can be butt hurt about the penalties all they want, but they were grabbing all day.

This +1 - I like where he put the incompletions (i.e. Auburn didn't drop any balls that should have been intercepted)

-3 balls batted by Auburn defenders behind line of scrimmage
-1 "pure" drop by LSU receivers, not a bad number
-Auburn DBs were definitely grabby, but also well above average in coverage

Second RB screen to be batted down. Either the RB needs to swing out more, blocking assignments need to change to clear a passing lane, or Burrow needs touch on those passes.

I liked the RPO that he flipped out to Giles. I expect that to go for big yardage in the future.

The passing game worked out exactly as I thought it would. Auburn’s DBs play the man and not the ball, they also interfere a lot as I have stated in previous posts leading up to the game. Our WRs did an extremely good job of getting open and we owned the middle of the field against them. Those big DLinemen got worn out by game’s end and that last drive they were on their heels. Burrow is a very accurate passer and delivers when feeling the pressure. The guy is a gamer and seems to get better as the game gets grinds on. We need our WRs to continue to improve and minimize drops which I feel very confident in. Jefferson is a world beater, Chase has Sullivan are growing, and Anderson and Dillon are starting to hold on to the ball. I’ve been down on Dillon over the last two games but I’m glad he finally showed up when we needed him to, world class speed. The offensive line gets a freaking A+ for manhandling that blitz happy defense.

I don’t think we could have asked anything more from Burrow. He is much better than the stats indicate and he has been tested against two very stout defensive units. That’s something everyon should keep in perspective moving forward.

Wow, you really think he has time to think about that.
