I get a month of free access to marvel's online site. I have no clue where to start.

I don't particularly have favorites with Marvel so I'm open to what you have to suggest.

P.S. I have read the Civil War storyline. I got it for free years ago.

As a kid I bought and read every Amazing Spider-Man for years. I would buy them at the local 7/11 when a new issue came out every month.

I now have them on proud display in bins. I still love them.

You may have to do some research on reading order if they don’t have everything all together.

Staples: Civil War, Secret Invasion, Annihilation, World War Hulk, Cabel & Deadpool

Ones I liked: Superior Spider-Man, Agent Venom, Punisher MAX, God of Thunder, Thunderbolts, Dark Reign

If you haven’t read the Ultimates, I’d recommend Ultimates 1 and 2. They are set in the Earth-1610 universe instead of the main line. The Marvel Cinematic Universe borrows a lot are far as character appearance from this setting.

The 90’s Clones Comics with Scarlet Spider and Spider Man were some of the first comics I read. I’d go with those. Solid storyline

Next wave deserves a read. It’s only about 12 issues but is extremely popular.

Claremont era X-Men. Clone saga was Marvel s answer to death of superman that spiraled out of control.

Annhilation through war of Kings to the Thanos imperative for cosmic.

Spider-Man anything before one more day.

Looks like most of the major story lines have already been recommended, so I'll throw out an under the radar pick.

Peter David's run on X-Factor was amazing.

Start with the Limited series - Madrox

Continue with X-Factor #1. (pictured above).

Startling Stories: Thing - Night Falls on Yancy Street
by Evan Dorkin and Dean Haspiel

Four issue mini-series. Very good.

THIS.

This era (late seventies, early 80s) is what really moved the X-Men from some back-of-the-rack comic to Marvel's biggest seller.

I stopped buying and reading comics in 1990 shortly after I finished grad school. Got to be too much of an expensive habit.

Kept my collection nicely organized, bagged and boxed in attics for 26 years; sold it 2 years ago for an even $1,000. Which, if you looked at the cover prices of the comics that I had and the number of comics I sold, meant I pretty much got my money back.

Brubaker's Captain America Run should be tops on the list. best of the 2000s
Fractions Hawkeye - Best of the 2010s
Miller's Daredevil - Best of the 80s/90s not maed Spider-Man
Whedon's - Astonishing X-Men - One of the best all around runs ever

Along with some of the good crossovers like Infinity Gauntlet, Days of Future Past, House of M, etc. Claremont's X-Men, Simonson's Thor.

If you want something off beat - Iron Fist, Moon Knight, and/or She-Hulk have some great runs.

ETA: New X-Men Run. Just a brilliant set of stories. That would be second on my list to read. Not only that, New X-Men was really the 90s/2000s break. Most of the DNA of modern comics is in that New-X-Men story, and it broke significantly from the orgy of violence/bro comics of the 90s. Even though that was a big part of what I grew up with, 90s comics had a lot of problems.

This is a good list. Brubaker really brought juice back into Rogers.

The early 2000's were just a good time for comics as the 90s were being discarded.

I unabashedly loved the 90s Age of Apocalypse X-men run.
