Why is the delayed handoff, a la Auburn, so hard to stop?

They were killing us with it yesterday during their 21 straight.

When you see the Quarter back sprint out like he was doing , the linebackers have to respect it . They couldn’t tell if Stidham would pull it and run, they weren’t sure if he would pull it and drop a slant right behind them and then by time you react to the handoff the offensive lineman made it to the second level .

Which led to Devin White blowing up the A Gap and Stidham having to make a quick decision to just hand it off

It's an optional read. The LBs have to respect the run so it freezes them up. I think a lot of teams down the road are going to use this on LSU especially ones with a better threat at something like this. MSU is going to carve this defense up.

Defense bites on it and it's too late to cut back.

I dunno.

Seems like there were times that it worked, and there were times that Rashard Lawrence was trying to tackle two people in the backfield.

You're basically making the defense pause for a millisecond. That's all it takes.

It gives the AU line time to setup their holds.

accomplishes the same thing as the toss dive does from under center. gives the linemen time to maneuver and gives the rb an extra split-second of recognition time.

Aub staple, Johnson tore us up last year too until we adjusted.

It can be used for 2 different types of plays...the QB read option and RPO. The QB has one read on different types of plays. Sometimes he is reading a DE or OLB that is unblocked. In this case, the defensive player has to either commit to the RB or the QB. Another situation, the QB could read MLB or OLB and if they step up for the run, the QB will pass to the area that they voided. In both situations, the long read allows the QB to have longer to read the defense and causes the defense to make a commitment
