Nike Legend React
Retail: $100
Paid: $55
Entry level for Nike's first in house foam since the underwhelming Lunarlon foam.
The Good:
Pretty light (8.7oz) for a nine. React foam is both very soft and has good return. Lower stack height especially for a Nike. Good arch support, if you need it.
The Bad:
Not as soft as the Odyssey or Epic React. Thick tongue (didn't really bother me). Thin at the midsole/forefoot. Snug in the toe box. Doesn't breath real well.
Feels like it takes few runs to warm up the foam in this shoe which is weird. This shoe is designed to be a every run type of shoe which means it doesn't excel at anything really. The low forefoot stack height is worrisome but I don't think there's any risk of bottoming out this shoe. Takes the mileage pretty good but does get difficult to live with after 14 miles on longer runs. If you have wider feet, you'll want to size up.
Verdict:
I bought this shoe because I was in a pinch and needed something almost immediately. I've not been let down. The Legend React will get a majority of my miles except speed workouts and it does those miles very well. This is a running shoe that can cross train and is very at home in the gym. There are no bells and whistles, it's just a shoe and I like that a lot.
If I were a beginner to intermediate runner, this would be my go to for the foreseeable future because it's cheap and it's versatile.
I guess you should buy these if...
You're new to running or just getting back in and want a good durable neutral shoe.

BRM,
Thanks for the write up & link.
As a new runner , I 100% agree with your synopsis and have enjoyed them since they came in.
My initial fitting gave me some very cushioned Hokas to get used to running, pavement, and to reduce the likelihood of stress fractures. 500 miles in with some races I needed something like this versus the Clifton.

The more runs I get in mine the more I like them. I had to go a half size bigger and had issues with my heel slipping and rubbing on my left foot the first couple of runs. Just had to tighten the laces a good bit and no issues. Like you, I feel the more miles I put on them the more comfortable the foam ha s become. I am migrating towards using these more on everyday runs instead of the Razor 3’s.
It has a bit more of a drop than I’m used to. I typically like 4 mm drop.
