Got to interact with him last year at the western hunting expo in Salt Lake City, seemed like a really good guy. Had quite a few people stopping to talk to him.

Really hope what was mentioned in this thread isn't how it happened.

There should à saying, "suicide doesnt end the pain, it just passes it on to someone else"

I have a real issue with anyone who puts that burden on their children

I don't think any of us know what he was thinking at the time.

Sad. Suicide is never the answer, and it only causes more problems for the loved ones you leave behind.

I don’t pretend to know what he was going through, but I know he and his family need our prayers, so at least give them that.

And that all makes good sense to a rational thinking person. Problem is that when people are suicidal they are anything but rational. The human mind is an incredibly complex organism. Sometimes it doesn't act in a manner that is normal.

I agree 100% . When it comes to mental illness and cognitive disorders, there is no medical cure to reverse the effects of CTE , traumatic brain injury, or Alzheimer’s & dementia. Counseling and medicinal treatment will only prolong the inevitable.

We will likely never know what was going on inside the brains of Jason Hairston, Junior Seau, Anthony Bourdain, Andre Waters, Dave Duerson, and many others who took their own lives. Unless the aforementioned individuals kept a daily journal or attended counseling to document how they truly felt and were coping with their disorders, we will never understand their pain.

Perhaps Hairston was trying to run from his mental demons and depression by becoming one with nature and spending lots of time in the outdoors. When finally realizing he could not defeat his mental illness, he decided to check out like so many others.

As much as clinicians and researchers have studied the human brain, we still know very little about how to prevent mental health disorders and cure certain illnesses. If you know anyone who verbalizes depression, please support them in getting professional help. Prayers sent for the Hairston family and friends.

one thing about depression that doesn't often get brought up is how exhausting it is. one of the reasons a depressed person keeps it to themselves is the fear of being a burden on others. every day you wake up and put on a fake face so nobody thinks anything is wrong and gets worried. I think one of the reasons why wealthy folks who appear to have everything decide to check out is because there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them. it isn't that they want to be dead...it's that they don't want to feel that way anymore. Could you imagine having everything but still waking up and feeling like dog shite every morning? I'm not saying I agree with ending everything like Jason chose to do but just trying to understand it. Mental illness/depression has hit some of my family so i've experienced first hand what it can do to people.

There actually are new medical treatments with amazing results for TBI. Dr. Mark Gordon has performed a lot of resssrch in this area and is using hormone replacement therapy with dynamic results.

The absence of proper nuerosterouds or brain hormones is the problem. The current treatments are just treating symptoms. By using HRT, the cause is being addressed.

TBI is a causal factor for hormone deficiencies.

pretty sad ending with lots of questions unanswered ... prayers sent up for the family

the last days of Jason Hairston

“We were sitting in our bedroom, and Jason’s a tough guy, but he finally had a vulnerable moment with me,” Kirstyn, 46, shares. “He said, ‘It’s bad, I can’t remember anything anymore, I can’t remember people’s names.’

Jason soon underwent brain scans that revealed his frontal lobe — the part of the brain that controls impulse, judgment and memory — was “completely compromised.” He then participated in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (which may have some benefits for people with brain injuries) for 80 straight days, but a scan following the treatment showed his brain’s deterioration had progressed. By then, Jason had shown signs of dementia.

Why does it seem strange. Because hmmmm.... maybe they didn't all commit suicide.

Never heard of a guy hunting committing suicide, not even after missing a huge buck.
