Just wondering the reaction if Orgeron had lost to Canada’s Maryland team?

We lost to Troy, so it wouldn't be surprising.

Seriously, what is the point of a thread like this?

at $7MM/year, I wouldn't. Herman hasn't done anything to show he was worth the price tag he had. It's not like he is devoid of resources at Texas either. not saying I'm pleased with Orgeron, but it's time some of our fans acknowledge Herman may not be what he was cracked up to be.

Texas has been a train wreck for years. I would not read too much into Maryland beating them. They did it last year as well

I never understand why people say this, it’s not your money seriously that’s what the market is, if you like a coach or don’t like a coach, what he makes should be irrelevant to you. Unless you are saying you are fine with lesser results at a lower salary?

It’s a bad loss but what if they finish 10-2 or 9-3? There’s certainly more pressure on him now and he has to deliver next year regardless

It's not really that hard to understand. If you that kind of a budget you expect to get as close to the best as possible. If you can only afford $1MM/year, you aren't going to get the best. UT is paying for a top tier coach, but aren't getting it.

I'd prefer better results at a lower salary, like we seem to be getting so far.

ETA- I say that admitting I wanted Herman. So far he has not panned out. And
His latest quote is a real head scratcher. Texas fans are on edge.
Herman weird quote

Why exactly? I’ve been saying that the dude is the most overrated coach in the country since the 2016 search and people like you crucified me for it with no rationale whatsoever. None of his superfans can ever point out what specifically he’s so phenomenal at. Anyone can look like a great QB’s coach with Tebow, Alex Smith, etc.

His resume now consists of a miracle 13-1 season and 2- going on 3- below average seasons in a row between Houston and Texas. At some point his 13-1 season is going to be the outlier and he’s going to settle into being the mediocre coach that he is. I’ve watched almost every UT and Houston game since he became relevant and his teams just aren’t impressive, disciplined, or well coached looking. I’m seriously wondering why you’re still so high on him, please enlighten us

You are missing the point. Saying you are not getting the results is hind sight, there are no guarantees when you hire someone, just look at Harbaugh. But if you are a top program wanting to compete at the highest level you are going to have to pay the market rate for a top coach and hope you’ve found a good one.

If you are a Texas fan you should be disappointed with the result regardless of the salary.

Are you Joe Alleva?

You ain’t getting better results without paying at some point so it still sounds like you are fine with lesser results 9-3,8-4 if the salary i line with what you think is acceptable. I want a program that competes for titles for that you have to pay.

Your fallacy is that you think paying top dollar guarantees success. I’ve only seen those results with one coach and he ain’t leaving Bama any time soon.

Paying big dollars for teams that don’t compete for titles is not so smart. In fact, it can set your program back further when you have to pay for the buyout and a new coach.
