Didn't you just buy an F250?

I haven't owned any of those, but obviously timing chains, as a wear item, at some point, do need to be replaced.
I'd be pissed if they let go before 100K, and I wont even mention timing belts.
Still, most people that buy trucks don't expect to deal with a timing chain R/R until well in excess of 100K. Modern, well-designed V-8's certainly dont need them for a long, long time.

I've replaced them on SBF and SBC engines with as little as 50k miles on the set. In older engines you simply could get away with the minor changes in cam timing and the old EFI systems didn't have the resolution to see a problem until it was something major. Practically all modern OHC V8's and V6's can expect to have a timing chain replacemt or tensioner/guides replaced if the owner wants to keep the engine long enough. Big thing with these engines is using the right oil and good filters and changing them out regularly. I stick to a 5k mile OCI with full sythetic oil and OEM filter, oil life computers don't seem to be good enough and is a major culprit with GM's V6 in the Colorado.

My buddy is on his 3rd transmission in his 2 yr old Chevy, so that sure as frick isn’t an option for me
I’ve had 5 Chevys from work vans to Tahoes to Silverado’s and every single one of them needed a new transmission around 100k miles. Not to mention ACs going out, oil pan failures and many other problems. I own a Tundra now with 100k on it without a single problem. I will never own a Chevy again.

Curious, what makes you seek out the 4.6 over the 5.7? Way less power and similar fuel mileage. The 5.7 isn't exactly a slouch in the reliability department.
Mainly price I guess. I don’t need to pull a lot of weight so I figured I’d try to save a few bucks.

Had 2 Chevy trucks from 2007 - 2012 and these issues occurred before 60K miles on each one.
Dash cracks in multiple places, cruise control quits working and alternator goes out plus cheap interior with switches breaking.
Tundra owner now and my 2nd choice would be a Ford.

My '08 Silverado's transmission went out at 83K miles. I had to replace my brake booster, speakers twice, cruise control switch twice, rear passenger door window motor not to mention the cracks in the dashboard etc. My ball joints and front end were failing and needed replaced all before 100k miles. And I knew eventually I would have the cam/lifter problems eventually that everyone else was having.
I sold it for a tundra and couldn't be happier.
