Same thing

Sheppard averaged something like 10 Ypc and we never used him correctly again. Ricard was a lot like Narcisse. A local kid who had talent but probably came at a bad time and saw they wouldn’t get to play so they got out early. Smart move if you ask me for both. Flynn has one good year on his resume but he struggled in limited time before that which proves some kids take a while to get ready for the SEC. Even Rohan Davey looked terrible before 2001. Mauck had some bad games in 2002 before he got hurt. Not many freshmen and sophomores succeed in the SEC without a solid OL and skill players.

quote:exactly. someone posted a chart showing the same numbers for pretty much all the top p5 schools. that article is interesting but devoid of context.
This is pretty common amongst top tier schools

Most of those guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, yet we signed them, and then they couldn't complete a dump off to a RB, yet we tried to make them QB's.

Pretty amazing that we have been one of the winningest programs in the country the last two decades with less than even average QB play.
Has always been the missing piece.
When people challenge how LSU hasn’t won more titles with so much talent in the NFL , the counter should be as simple as “take a look at this list”.
That said- it’s wasnt an excuse then and it’s not an excuse now for not winning.
Get it done.

Danny Etling:
"His 191.1 yards per game passing average is the third in school history behind only Tommy Hodson and Josh Booty."
I would have never thought that.
Danny was not appreciated here.. I read somewhere ( I will not be able find it..) that Danny was in the top 20 CFB QB's in passing efficiency last year.
But you are what your stats say you are and while Danny was never Heisman material he was better than most people gave him credit for...

Les and Cam screwed with Harris’s mind. Believe it or not, he was not the same QB after his freshman season.
To be fair he sucks as much now as when he was a freshman.

Hayden Rettig (2013) Retting was a former U.S. Army All-American who only spent one season at LSU before transferring out. He found his way to Rutgers but still never got the playing time he desired. In three seasons with Rutgers, Rettig threw for 233 yards in five games in 2015 before sitting all of 2016. He transferred to Tennessee Tech with one more season of eligibility remaining but was ultimately beat out for the job by Andre Sale, who left Tennessee Tech after last season to walk-on at LSU.

Negative.
Harris’ issue was/is the bright lights of gametime.
Dude has immense talent, but it doesn’t translate to the moments when it’s needed most.
There was an article some time back about using biometrics to gauge player outputs/effort/stress level and , although not stated outright, there was a vague reference that seemed to insinuate Harris’ heart rate would spike massively in the game and never come down.
Stress/anxiety is bitch.

Out of the last 15 on that list, 11 transferred out. The only 4 that did not are:
Mettenburger
Etling
Brennan
Burrow

Me either, and that shows just how awful LSU has been at QB in their history.

And with that, the LSU quarterback position has come full circle. Tennessee Tech's "quarterback Sale" brings to Baton Rouge atonement for past recruiting misses.
The LSU commit out of HS was beaten out at Tenn Tech by LSU's current 3rd string quarterback.
This is the sign we have been waiting for marking the end of our days of being cursed at the quarterback position.
I know you're joking, but Sale was even awful at Tennessee Tech.
I think LSU, Miles because he was the HC, destroyed a lot of promising QBs' careers. Running that really old style pro style offense without a legit college QB coach. The vast majority of these kids never played in a pro style before coming to LSU, and most of their skills don't translate. LSU could have been so much better, and Miles would have still had his job if he just got a good college QB coach and a modern offense. Dedicate your effort towards the QB position, and that goes to any coach.
Ed doesn't really know what he wants and Ensminger hasn't coached QBs in over a decade, and hws coach one good college QB his entire career (over 20 years ago).
I have no faith in what happens after Burrow graduates. Him being an Urban Meyer transfer and them running a more open offense is the only reason the next two years won't be painful to watch as far as QB play goes (if he remains healthy).

This is pretty common amongst top tier schools. For example, UF has signed 15 QBs since Tim Tebow left. 10 of those 15 have transferred since then.
Transfers yes (happens to everybody especially at QB), the problem is never developing anybody here.
UF had
Shane Matthews - 3 good years, but too many ints for me)
Danny Wuerfful/Terry Dean - 2 great years together
Danny Wuerfful - 2 really great years
Doug Johnson - 3 good years
Rex Grossman - 2 really good to great years
Chris Leak - 3 good to great years
Tim Tebow - 2 really great years, one ridiculous year
LSU doesn't come close in that same span (1990-2009). UF has been awful the past 8 years there because of the HC hires. Mullen meshes with Florida talent much better than the other two. Since 2009, only Mett (2013), and Etling (2017) had years that you would consider good as the "middle tier" ones UF had from 1990-2009. I could do the same thing comparing LSU to UGA or Tennessee, or even the smaller ones like Kentucky, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

Harris just wasn't that good. He hit s few big plays against State his freshman season and fooled us all.
Y'all still don't get it do you? Raw dual threat QBs that had never played in anything close to a pro style offense, had little to no coaching (Cam never developed a college QB), and were forced into a certain style instead of the coach fitting the offense around their style (see pro style Petrino with Lamar Jackson).
