To be fair - I’ve said for YEARS that the power in the word is in its taboo. I’ve said everyone should say it and it’ll lose its power in short order.

We give NEEGER too much power by insisting it never be uttered.

We rob RACIST of its strength by using it too often.

This. It’s all about context anyways. Just saying the word is not racist. For example the context papa John used was not racist.

Saying “I hate fricking n#^*^ers” is racist

Exactly, the day I call you a N***** and you call me a cracker/honkie/whatever and neither of us give a shite.....then it is defeated.

Us white folk have it. You call me cracker or honkie and I could care less. Got to get past it for black folks now.

The only people that can do that right now are people that know each other personally/friends.

When folks stop caring it looses its strength.

It is truly a head scratcher isn't it? The Prog/Dim leftists of society have taken a word, that morphed from the word Negro or Negre and absolutely weaponized the word to destroy people. I would prefer people not hide behind societal shame, I want people to speak freely so I know who they are. When I know who you are I can make an informed decision to either associate with you or check you off my list.

I had an earlier thread that dealt with the issue of weaponized words and used the word "f&ggot" as the unmentionable word. The homosexual folks decided they preferred the word "gay" to describe their sexual preference and now the original meaning of the word gay has been lost and the new meaning has become a derogatory sexual slur.

The point is, society can attach a negative connotation to any word over time, now that word is weaponized.

This is one of the wisest things I've ever read on here. I have never thought of it from this angle, and man you nailed it. I argue with my wife constantly how words are only insulting once we give them that power, and people are constantly doing just that to create new victimhood. This angle you bring here is fricking brilliant. Seriously.
