so you are saying that we should expect O to never beat teams ranked higher than him?

then why did LSU hire him? you cannot win every game on talent alone, every now and again the head coach has to ...you know..coach.

It depends on what you mean by "floor".

If floor = the worst record conceivable by LSU, then that number is 3-9. That happens if LSU loses to Miami, loses to Auburn and the team loses faith in the coaches and quits. (BTW - Oregeron still keeps his job in that scenario. I don't know what happens to Alleva).

If floor = the worst record we should expect from LSU and it keep its HC and AD, then yes, 8-4 is the floor.

People are just rationalizing when they think there is no way LSU could lose more than 4 games this year based on information from prior teams and prior coaching staffs.

We know from Archer, Hallman, and DiNardo (and Johnny Jones for that matter) that it can get ugly really fast and it can be really difficult to rebuild a winning program once it gets destroyed.

If O goes 3-9 there's no way he gets a third year and alleva is also gone

Agreed. If O goes 6-6 it is very possible he is gone.

I would like to believe you but I don't see the political will to do it and historically LSU coaches have gotten 2 losing seasons before they are fired.

Sure, but this season has 9 wins written all over it. There are too many uncertainties with too difficult of a schedule for us to have a magical season.

I expect we'll be competitive in every game (unlike last year's Mississippi State and Alabama game) and I don't think we'll have any embarrassing moments (thanks O for that Troy game), but I see 9 wins. Losses to Auburn, Alabama, and someone else - Georgia, Miami, A&M, Florida?

You haven’t a clue. I’m not angry in the least bit. Retired with a great family and as much golf, Astros and fishing as I can take.

What I’m tired of people like you trying to pump up others on the inevitable - a gigantic heap of dog shite that is the football program at the hands of this proverbial loser.

The schedule Lack of confidence in staff At least two (A&M and Florida), and possibly 4 (State and Arkansas) of our opponents should be better than they were when we played them a year ago.

Two of the three you listed can be applied every single season

I disagree. I think only one of these was applicable last year (lack of confidence in staff). Going into last year, I expected the floor to be 10 wins. The schedule was favorable and outside of Auburn getting Stidham, I didn't feel like anyone would be markedly better than they were in 2016.

This year, wins/losses expectations are lower, IMO, for the following reasons:

1) Confidence in coaching staff has gotten lower
The State, Troy and Notre Dame losses last year should have raised warning flags to even the most optimistic fans (Ree, Brutus and TTT excluded)

2) Schedule is extremely tough on paper
I can't remember going into a season where we have 4 top 10 teams on the schedule where we weren't ranked in or near the top 10 as well. You can say our schedule is always tough, but this is relative. Yeah, our schedule is always tough compared to teams in other conferences, but the 2016 and 2017 schedules weren't particularly daunting when compared to this year's schedule.

3) Texas A&M should be better. Florida should be much better. Mississippi state might be better as they return a lot of guys from the team that beat us 37-7. Arkansas might be better.

But Les was coaching then...O is now. While people can mock Les, and I was one of them, he always won 8 games even with his crappy teams. Can't say the same for O.

I think people pretty much knew what to expect from the LSU offense in 2014: “Their QBs can’t beat us through the air; stack the box.”

Maybe we have a guy now who can make them pay.

Its a shame that most fans on here can't see what was going on from 2014 to 2016..................

The REASON some of us get upset is the lack of 100% POSITIVE support for the team and the coach.

This is a serious question because I'm genuinely interested in your answer.

What has he accomplished to deserve 100% POSITIVE support so far? That would require that he doesn't get criticized for anything or doubted for anything.

The Advocate pointed out today that the last time we had 2 scholarship QB's was 2014. We had sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris. This year we have RS junior Joe Burrow and sophomore Myles Brennan.

The 2014 schedule featured 5 preseason ranked teams - Wisconsin, Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama, and A&M.
The 2018 schedule features 5 preseason ranked teams - Miami, Auburn, Georgia, Miss St, and Bama.

2014 LSU returned 11 starters, led by La'el Collins, Tre White, and Kwon Alexander.
2018 LSU returns 11 starters, led by Devin White, Rashard Lawrence, and Greedy Williams.

The 2014 team went 8-4 in the regular season. We are better at QB now, better on defense now, and the schedule is no tougher.

I can't think of a more illogical way to predict wins and losses than this display of drivel fodder for dullards.
