I am not trying to be critical, but what was the reason for performing a face transplant for a person that is suicidal?

I'd assume because it is an opportunity for doctors to perform an experimental surgery and perfect a procedure that has been performed a grand total of like 3 times in the entire history of mankind

besides the scientific miracle, the Department of defense funded it for research for obvious reasons.
I hope she recovers and has a fulfilling life and can counsel young folks to not do stupid shite that is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I would imagine they did an extensive psych evaluation before agreeing for her to be a candidate.
Also...just because she was suicidal once...doesn't mean she will always be.
Maybe she now has a better appreciation of life in general.

I read something about Golden Gate Bridge jumpers that survived. The consensus was as soon as they jumped, they regretted it, had an epiphany so to speak.
