It’s not complicated at all. Simpson has his client contacts, Veselnitskaya and Akhmetshin, who both worked for Prevezon, to reach out to Emin Agalarov via Goldstone to set it up. It appears Goldstone and Emin were simply unknowing trying to help by facilitating. Simpson even testified as to being with Veselnitskaya and Akhmetshin that morning and the next night at a dinner party.

Tell me, what's in it for Veselnitskaya and Akhmetshin and Kaveladze to be at the meeting (and BTW you didn't account for how Kaveladze got there).

V and A, favor or quid pro quo to Simpson. They were in the US lobbying congress and others against the Magnitsky Act anyway, so what’s the harm in one more meeting about it as far as they were concerned? Help out a friend and spread the word a little more.

The same thing 90 days before or 90 days after. The wheels of the “insurance policy” were in motion. IMO the timing is almost irrelevant.

Who says they were going to use it before the election? After the virtually guaranteed Clinton victory they would see which Russians were supposedly working with Trump so they could leverage those Russians “disloyalty” to Clinton against them. Seems pretty fairly cut and dry if you aren’t an idiot.
