There is some truth to her statement. The vast majority of politicians do not organically come to power.

She has a degree in economics from Boston Univ. I've heard enough clips of her to peg her knowledge of economics as that of a fairly smart 7th grade student.
Our colleges aren't what they used to be. 50 years ago the head of the dept at BU would have said 'No one that stupid is going to represent this college.' She would not have gotten a degree.
