The F-15’s that intercepted came out of Portland. Full burner to Sea-Tac would only take 7 minutes or so. Alert time for those boys is 5-10 minutes so they were running up before the hijacker even took off.

They thought it had been hijacked, and like a number of commercial airliners before, they assumed the highjackers just wanted to be taken somewhere or hold the passengers for ransom, a highjacked plane had never been used as a weapon and flown into a building until that day.

Right. SOP before 9/11 was to stay calm and give into their demands to get the plane back on the ground. But the pilots had never been murdered before. In the past the hijackers used the pilots to fly and land the plane. Betty Ong knew the pilots had been stabbed and possibly killed. That should have tipped them off that this wasn’t your usual joy ride to Cuba.
