I'm the biggest Hardy fan there is, but he really does not need to portray working class or American mob types... Simply because his accent is so atrocious and weird when he does it.
It sounds like some kind of weird blend of Pakistani mixed with Hanibal Lecter with a speech impediment.
For such a great actor, he has such a hard time with any non British accents.
The James Caan accent is what you need for this part.. You know an authentic old time Brooklyn accent... Or even the Pesci Chicago-NY mix accent he used in Casino.
It's very sad that the wealth of old time ethnic, working class American actors we used to have are all but replaced by Brit and Aussie "tough guys" now.

The guy that played Al Capone on Boardwalk Empire, while being WAY too short for the role, was perfect. And he is also a Brit.

Let me guess, you won't be able to understand a single thing he says.

shot that earlier this year in NOLA ..... releasing next year. Watching the dailies i will say it looks fantastic and his awkward speech might actually work in the film's favor due to the period of Al's life
