How many who post here ever attended a game at the old stadium?
I was probably 6 years old when my Dad took me and my brother to a game against the Rams.
I was young but i remember what seemed like a 5 mile hike to the stadium and the stadium shaking when everyone would stomp their feet.
When you are 6 the stadium seems huge.
Loved those glory days!!
Go Saints!!!

Makes it so much better today when we win. Going through all that pain was why older Saint's fans appreciate how things can start so bad and become so good.
I was speaking more to the game day experience back in those days.

I did, my dad worked the sidelines as a communications guy.. They would call the press box via rotary phone and explain any injuries or any other happenings..

He had 2 season tickets, which my brother would go.. and they would buy $2.50 general admission tickets for me...

I froze at Monday night game where the Steelers crushed them... We sat in the NW side, at about the goal line.

Till this day, a guy smoked a pipe behind us, and whenever I smell someone smoking a pipe, it reminds me of those times...

What type of crowds did Tulane get there?

I went to a number of Saints, LSU and Tulane games. 1. The stadium was big - 83k. The Saints drew great crowds, and even Tulane once had good attendance for big games - especially against LSU. It was steel and swayed when everyone stomped, Parking was challenging, but the place had atmosphere and with Al Hirt playing trumpet, we had style even though our teams were real bad.

I went often as a little one, but have no actual recollection of any Saints games there.

The one thing I do remember is attending a Jesuit-DeLaSalle game there in 1978 or 1979.

I also remember the demolition and them selling pieces of the turf and bleachers.

Take a look at photos of the original and new stadiums. Amazing how much bigger the footprint of the old stadium was.

Note they misspelled Cuozzo's name.

My dad got 7 season tickets at the start. 4 on the West side and 3 youth tickets in the South end zone ($1.50 each).

I was a teen at the Saints-Eagles game when the booing and foot-stomping noise from the fans kept Roman Gabriel from getting off a snap for like 22 minutes...Eagles were set up near the goal line at the end of the stadium I was in by a bogus PI call.

quote:

Roman Gabriel
When he fumbled in that game, fans yelled, "Hey Gabrel, it takes 2 hands to handle a Whopper!".

He was doing some Burger King commercials at the time.

Was also at the Monday Nighter against the Steelers that Hangover Haven referenced...lost feeling in my feet on the walk to the stadium and got progressively number as the night went on.

I'm used to having guys try to call me out when I say "Roman Gabriel" and "Eagles" rather than "Rams"...

The games had great halftime shows back then - hot air balloons, jet backpack guys, ostrich races, cannons firing (blew one guys hand off), Al Hirt

In one way the NFL was better back then. You really didn't have free agency like today, so the players on teams tended to stay the same. As a result, you knew your division opponent's players well.

I remember those times. My good friend in high school lived on Broadway off Willow. He used to park cars in his driveway. His dad had season tickets, and would give them to us when he didn't want to go. He bought one of those beer dispensers and had it in his house in Lakeview. Lost it in the storm.
