Bearing race tip.... Mig weld it!

Figured I'd share a tip maybe will help someone out.
After picking with these races in a spindle I could get out. Saw on google you can weld a bead and when they cool they just tap out.
Well I'm here to say it fricking works. I just spend hours grinding and chiseling and heating and cooling and these races didn't move a bit.
Took it to a buddy with a mig gun and he spot welded it all the way around. When it cooled I flipped it Iver and they tapped out. Damn near fell out.
fricking amazing. Hope this helps someone

Sorry I didn't have e my phone. I'll find you some. You are correct. ...
This picture shows more welding than we did. Weld the race only. Not the race to the housing.

Yes it does, I dont even weld all the way around to start. I do a couple sides sometime thats all it takes.

I was shocked at how well it worked. I'm looking at mig welders now. It's really awesome how well it works.
I spent hours beating and grinding with my dremel cutting wheels a little at a time.

Ive got a miller 180 i think. Auto set. Its really easy to weld and make it look good. Ive never been good welding with a stick rig but i do decent work with the mig.

I'd like to be set up to do aluminum.
I've had practice on stainless but never attempted aluminum.
Black iron is fine. Stick is what we had available in construction when I was there.
I've done Tig and mig. Never aluminum... Not yet anyway.

I have a millermatic 211 with the spool gun. Incredibly badass little machine. I love it. It welds butter smooth and the infinite voltage and feed speed adjustment is awesome.

send me the part. i weld for a living and will do it for a price of course

Do you ever use the 120v option? If so, how do you like it?
I'm in the market for a wire welder but I want it to be portable as I find myself doing small metal 90% of the time. I still have a Lincoln tombstone stick welder for the heavy stuff.

I haven't used 110 yet but I imagine it's fine for thinner stuff. The chart on the inside of the door is dead nuts accurate and the autoset works great as well. Cant find a negative about it for the price

I have the 211 also, and have used it on both 120 and 240. The 120 works fine if you use it as intended (it has markings for 120 on the dial). I'll use it at other people's houses, and out under my carport. I have run it poorly for short bursts off of my Generac GP5500.
Like downshift said, welding with it on 240 is noticeably better. You can hear it. It's a good little machine.
I got mine on sale from Airgas, and with a big bottle of 75/25, I think I was all in for $1200 IIRC. There was a Miller sale, and Airgas had a sale, so I lucked out

Gonna have to try that.
I suppose when it all cools, the bead just pulls everything towards the center?

My favorite thing about the 211 is how well it does aluminum with the spoolmate 150. It will run 035 5356 up to 1/8" really well. It's on wide arse open doing it but it lays a beautiful bead.
I find it cools itself extremely well also. I've only hit the thermal trip once and I was back burning in about a minute. Great machine
