I'm selling a gun on Armslist, and put on there no shipping, would prefer to sell local so I don't have to mess with shipping, ffl, etc. I've been contacted by two people wanting me to ship to them saying they have ffl. Is there a way to verify these? Or am I just being scammed by someone?

Any of you sold off of there?

I have not but I would think if you get the $ first and then have your ffl send to there ffl there should be no issue....but I could be wrong.

What are you selling...a shotgun?

Thanks! It looks like it checks out. Seems to be a gun dealer in Indiana. Just can't figure out why he would pay what I'm asking for this gun.

Actually I dont think that is it, I've checked blue book value on this rifle and it is at or slightly above value due to it having a scope. I typed in the guys name and there was a post from 2013 on armslist warning people that the guy was a scammer. I'll probably hold off.

If the address on the FFL he sent you matches the address on the FFL ezcheck you should be good to go. I've had my FFL spoofed a couple times where they changed the address on my FFL and sent it to the seller hoping the seller wouldn't verify it. Other than that I would want payment in a form they can't reverse like a USPS money order. Armslist is chock full of scammers.

That’s armslist for ya! I sold 5 guns on there and the profit was no less than 10% above market on all of em. Folks have driven up to 4 hours to meet. If your piece isn’t something special or rare then most likely there’s an issue with their gun privileges. Just remember that if you sell to a nut, you’re on the hook if anything happens.

Only if the prosecution can make a case that you knowingly handed the gun over to a prohibited person.

I have not sold on armslist, but have purchased a gun from there and had it shipped from Maine. I was nervous about it, so I had my local trusted FFL arrange the whole thing. Ended up being an easy transaction and I’m thrilled with the purchase. I never thought I would buy a used gun without seeing it first, but I couldn’t find the one I wanted (Crack barrel .35 Rem) local. I may have paid a little too much, but I guess the value of things depends on the availability in your location.

If you're going to sell and ship, it's pretty simple:

Is the money secure? Is the FFL legit? If so, you should be ok. The receiving FFL should be the filter to prevent liability about the buyer... if he can't buy, he won't pass the background check when they run it.

DO NOT ship until you have the funds. Don't have a check bounce etc.

If I'm selling a gun I do FTF only. NEVER ship. Too many scams out there.

Edit to add link to such scam. Although tis dude was buying instead of selling.

I understand the concern, but serious advice here-

the seller is the one who can scam, not the buyer.

You're the seller. You wait until you receive the funds (money order etc, and wait until it's cleared and deposited).
You ship to a verified FFL. At this point, the FFL is responsible; they have to do the background check. Buyer has to pass that, or shite out of luck. I think if that happens, you are out of shipping, and might have to return his payment (or maybe not, I don't know).

FTF is iffy on it's own, too. There's money and guns involved, between 2 strangers. I would do it in a public place (Walmart parking lot, I'd have a wingman along for safety). I'm go so far as to make sure someone else knows where you are going and what you're doing, in addition to the wingman.
That's prudence, not paranoia. Dude might well be a great fella who wants that particular gun.

However it goes, I hope it goes smoothly. Good luck.

I bought and sold several guns from Armslist and GunBroker and have never had an issue.
The key is communication and research.
If the buyer / seller is responsive and willing to have a phone conversation, those are good signs.

I always research the person on FB or other sites they hangout on to see if they have any complaints.
Just ask them what sites they frequent and if they refuse, kindly back out.
I have pulled out of 1 deal because I wasn't completely comfortable with the person and he seemed evasive.

Once you commit tot he sale, lookup and actually call his FFL to make sure they can receive the gun, and what they want in the shipping package. They will appreciate the call.
