Disney Is Seeking ‘Star Wars’ Rights Back From TBS, TNT
quote:
Turner has the rights to show the films on its cable networks, which include TNT and TBS, and online until 2024.
The “Star Wars’’ films are among the highest grossing in Hollywood, and content from the space saga figures to be a bedrock part of a new Disney streaming service that’s expected to debut next year.

I don't know, but both TBS & TNT don't show anything other than Star Wars since they were acquired

Did you seriously bump your own thread after only 1 minute?

Good point!

The world’s largest entertainment company tried to buy back TV rights to “Star Wars’’ movies from AT&T Inc.’s Turner Broadcasting so that it can offer them on a new streaming video service,
I can't wait until every single network and studio has its own streaming service. I look forward to finally cutting the cord at 4-5 times the cost of cable.

Is that really a bump?

Can we have them put TLJ into the Disney Vault permanently?

That's not a bump. He just had another comment to add.
As to the topic. Honest question. Is this a problem? What does it matter if Disney gets the exclusive rights back?

Having Star Wars exclusive to the Disney streaming platform on day one is a big deal to them.

Yeah, I get that but why is this a problem for us?

Because they could (read will) restrict availability

do people still watch movies on basic cable?

Disney's service is pretty much going to be a must have with Star Wars, Marvel, and their own properties. I'm assuming those all immediately get removed from Netflix, etc. and will only be available from the new service.

Like a Disney vault type situation? I mean, doesn't everyone have other ways to access the SW films at this point?

This should be part of an on-line petition.

All the time. One of the more recent Star Wars threads on this board happened because someone had been watching the marathon Turner was running.
I've never been one to pop a movie in the DVD player to rewatch it. Rewatching on demand just isn't how I watch TV. But if I stumble upon a movie I like while channel surfing I will watching. That's one thing that I think is missing from the On Demand world is channel surfing. NetFlix should make several "Play List" channels that just stream "live" and let you jump in and see what's on or have background TV/Movies.

No. As I always do when starting a thread, I made the initial link-post and then immediately followed up with a second post that had my personal reaction or snarky remark. The clock just happened to click to the next minute between the two posts.

How do you think we’ve all seen Shawshank, Tombstone, and Road House a million times each?
